Perhaps what I saw this morning was the filming of a commercial for the new restaurant.

But given that the film is described as a "Tandoori comedy," and the name of the film is "7 to the Palace," it seems like a safe bet that the restaurant in the movie is Tandoori Palace.  I'm guessing that the real restaurant will appear after the film shoot is over.  But maybe they'll keep the colorful new signage and just adopt that as their name, which wouldn't be a bad idea if this is a successful film.

FYI, here's the description of the film from MovieTome:  "A heartwarming New York style Tandoori comedy. Samir is a talented cook who dreams of being a great French Chef, but when he is forced to abandon his dream and run his fathers Indian restaurant in Jackson Heights, his life is forever changed. Learning the alchemy of Indian cuisine from a mystical larger than life immigrant cab driver, Samir manages to heal himself and his family, fall in love and turn a dreary run down greasy spoon restaurant into one of New York's most talked about eateries. "7 To The Palace" is about food, family, love, magic and New York."

Yeah, you're right. Definitely a set for 7 to the Palace. They were filming all day yesterday.

i spoke to a crew member today and they said tandoori palace was the fake restaurant they used. the next few days they will be filming there.\


AND I will try every indian buffet here within the next six months. no doubt. ill put it on my blog too.

Does anyone share my enthusiasm for the new Delhi Heights Restaurant and Bar? It looks fancy!

The place near Pizza Boy is Al-Naimat, which I think may actually be Pakistani. Their selection is limited, but their food is perfectly acceptable. (I’ve been thrice.) Maharaja is also a buffet, and on weekends I’m told so is Nanking (Indo-Chinese), but I guess I have only been on weekdays because I have never seen it despite my frequent visits. I have not eaten at Pakora since it was Khan Baba, and I was not impressed. For such a large place, the selection seems even tinier now as I peer through the window. I read online Kabab King had a self-serve buffet upstairs, and the upper level has been closed since I moved into the neighborhood, but just recently I saw the lights on upstairs so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Ugh, now I’m hungry. Jeff, don’t forget me either. I’m frequently available afternoons, and these places often have different items lunchtime than dinnertime.

Several years ago, Kebab King did have an upstairs buffet.  The food was much spicier than the others in the neighborhood.  At the time, I thought it was the second-best around, second only to Bombay Harbour, which has since closed. 

There's also Roti Boti, which I haven't tried.

And yes, I'm also excited about the arrival of Delhi Heights and Mehfil!

Roti Boti has a buffet? Is it the Roti Boti on the southern side of Broadway? I haven't been in there, but I checked out the one opposite and they didn't have a buffet, just steam tables.

And yes, Kabab King does have an upstairs buffet. I saw it when I ate there. But IMHO, it didn't look very good and we were the only ones upstairs at lunchtime, so I'm not sure about the freshness of the food. Great kebabs though!

ok Jeff, elyaqim, so the next JHLife group get together should be for Indian lunch buffet.   Anyone who's around during the day is welcome to come and partake in the joyful eating.

Jeff, you're working nights right now; I'm working part time during the week.  Next week I have off Thursday and Friday. Does either day work for you two?  Me loves to eat.... and even if I didn't, I feel duty bound to do it for the "cause".  All in the name of science!

Chuckster, you in?  I'll make sure you pick things that aren't overly spicy.  Eddiestjohns? jeannette? ECG???  who's hungry?

Funny, I don’t think any of the three places you mentioned has a buffet, unless by buffet you’re referring to the steam table from which someone who works there (as opposed to you yourself) places food on your plate, which is the case with Roti Boti. Kababish is take-away only, and I thought Delhi Palace is a full-service establishment, but I admit I have never been.

ah ha.  I didn't know that.  So I went to yelp and the restaurants that come up with lunch time buffets are:
Delhi Palace
Jackson diner
Ashoka
Indian Taj

I'm a regular at the Jackson Diner and haven gone to Delhi Palace but it was years ago.  Don't know the other two at all.  Any thoughts elyaqim or jeff?  I know eddie isn't really a big Indian food eater so it wouldn't matter to him which one.  He's going to be experimenting!  YUMMMY.
