This palce has been closed for more than a week now - I stopped by today and they said they were renovating   :D :D :D

I hope they reopen soon!

Didn't they renovate a couple of years ago?  I seem to remember them being closed for renovations.  I used to order hamburgers or the steak sandwiches from them years ago and had the order delivered.

Not crazy about diners, but in JH I would say Ricky's is my favorite because it is atypical. They claim their beans are not made with meat. Can I trust them?

I hope when it re-opens it is recognizable as the Ricky's I like.

It's a bit of a hike from JH, but NY Style Eats is in Sunnyside, and they deliver.  We got addicted when we lived on 40th street, and have been ordering takeout for the past year.  they have pretty yummy sweet potato fries (you have to pop them in the toaster oven if you get takeout though - the burgers make them a little soggy), but worth the effort, I promise!  their bacon cheeseburgers are yummy, and everything comes with pickles and slaw!

You know... 50's retro diners are really "in' right now.  But Jan's is the real thing.  Authentically decorated in the 1950's.  :)

The food is decent diner food, the service is uneven, but generally good, and the people- watching is to die for.

I only liked their breakfast not their lunches or especially dinners.  I remember canned veggies.. yuck.  But french fries go with everything so a sandwich and fries were also okay.  I don't think I'm a big diner person.  I prefer bagel shops.

Yeah, the people watching at Jahn's is good stuff but...canned mushrooms on the salads! I can't forgive it.

Went to Pop's Diner over in Elmhurst for breakfast today and was pleasantly surprised to find some Latino food offerings on the menu.  This is not common for diners.  Items on the menu included Ropa Vieja and Sancocho!  Pops also offers WiFi, and they advertise a comedy night too.  That's news to me!

It's been many years since the last time I was at Pops.  As a matter of fact, my last visit may have been when it was still the old Sage Diner.

the sage diner was an early touchstone for me. in my mid-teens, running around at all hours, their cheeseburgers were life altering. must try pops!

Me too dssjh!  A typical outing included The Rocky Horror Picture Show over at the Midway in Forest Hills and then breakfast at 2:00 a.m. at the Sage!

theyre ok, just a generic diner...nothing to write home about but they do the trick :) i was actually there about an hour ago since our first attempt at breakfast failed miserably at Slims bagels. both our orders were f-ing horrible

Recently, I've gone to the Buccaneer Diner a couple of times (because they sponsored my son's little league team).  They're a pretty good classic diner.  Unfortunately, they're way up at 93rd Street and Astoria Blvd.  There are a bunch of other traditional diners around as well (Mark Twain Diner, Jackson Hole, Georgia Diner), but I haven't tried them recently.

Closer to home, another option for you might be City Coffee at 78th & 37th.

When we moved to the neighborhood about 7 years ago, there was a real dive of a diner at the corner where Seba Seba is located now.  It looked like its decor (and prices!) hadn't been updated since the 70's.  The food wasn't great, but the prices were right!  

If you want a really nice breakfast, try the La Flor Bakery in Woodside.
