Orzabelle, do you mind if I ask how the pricing was?  I'm going to assume that it's a bit more expensive given the quality of the products that are offered.

pretty much what you'd expect for an espresso drink - I'm sure they are on par with starbucks, but MUCH more wonderfully made.  The beans are very high quality and the baristas really know their business. The drip coffee and the pastries are totally reasonable as well and completely delicious.

Considering some of the posts I've seen recently about the neighborhood not needing upscale and "expensive" restaurants and cafes (in other blogs), the clientelle that was present today at 77, certainly told a different story. With the number of strollers outside the door, it certainly felt like we were in Park Slope.

I hope this is the beginning of a trend of much more well thought out restaurants, cafes and retail shops, with a better ambience than is currently available in most of Jackson Heights.

Go Espresso 77! I just wish your space was bigger!

So I couldn't resist and stopped by Espresso 77.  Had a mochachino (sp?) and a brownie.  Both were absolutely delicious!  The brownie had a deeply rich chocolate flavor, and I did detect a bit of a kick to it.  Possibly some heat?  Wonderful!

And I just had a latte and a rosemary walnut scone -- the pair made me a total fan of the place (and it doesn't hurt that it's such a pleasant place, too -- I love the wall color).

Allow me to shovel on some more praise. I had an excellent small coffee on my way to the train this morning. Very reasonable price at about $1.60.

I was there this a.m., and was encouraged by Afzal to use their WiFi.  He was very pleasant and made the customers feel welcomed.

The hours on the door say:

M-Thrs 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Friday 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Sat-Sun 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Also had a cup on the way to the train this morning. Nice stuff... it's refreshing to get a good cup of coffee not burnt like starbucks. the guys behind the counter seemed very nice.

This is a great addition to the neighborhood. The homely qualities you look for in an independent shop. Super-friendly service, amicable employees and exquisite drinks and products. Lovely atmosphere as well.  The abstract-expressionistic art adds flavour.

From chatting with Afzal, I understand that it is his artwork that appears on the walls.  They will also be selling artwork at some point in the future.

Espresso 77 write up in Time Out NY

Architects-turned-restaurateurs Afzal Hossain and Julie Nymann keep it local at this new Jackson Heights coffee shop. Beans come from Ithaca, New York–based Gimme! Coffee, pastries are from Ambrosia Bakery in Queens, and Astoria's own Five Boroughs Ice Cream provides the frozen treats.
