L.I.C. Market also comes to mind, and on a more eclectic note Sage General Store, also in L.I.C..

Re: Sanfords in Astoria, i'd like to add that their brunch comes with a non alcoholic drink, 2 alcoholic ones and an entree for $16.  A less intimidating price point than our Bocaito, which is $20 and includes only one drink (they do have an appetizer though).

Excellent! I can't wait till you open--I've been dying for something like this. I really miss Armondo's with its Italian comfort food. We enjoy the Indian, Nepalese, Tibetan, Thai, Colombian, Argentinian, Japanese and other options in JH—but sorely miss having some American/European options that are a cut above diner food. An Irish bar would be great, too. We like Plaka a lot, but it's far enough away that we just don't go there very often. Your location will be really great, and I think there is pent-up demand for what you are doing.

I'm hoping for a "new american" style bistro. LIC market is a good model, as is Dutch Kills Centraal.

Not to hijack this thread, but reliable rumors say Armondo's is going to open at Trieste on Northern and 76? Street.

I just checked Armondo's website and you are correct! They say they are buying Trieste and plan to open February 2015! I will miss their former location, which was on my way home from the subway and so convenient, but still this is great. I hope that once the Bruson Building is restored some good retail will go back in there--I was sad to lose those businesses but happy that the building is now being worked on.

funny, i remember Sanford from when i lived in Astoria in the late '80s. a low-rent coffee shop with awesome rice pudding and a vibe much like Ricky's here in JH. how times change.

I have a little rage against Dutch Kills Centraal. The place is pretty, but when I've been there the service has been INSANELY slow - like, an hour from ordering until when your food arrives. They just seemed totally overwhelmed by being popular (because of all the hotels on the surrounding blocks.)

Irish bar: what's wrong with the Ready Penny? This is a little bit of a rhetorical question, but really, what *is* wrong with the Ready Penny and why don't people go there? I know one guy who goes there and he loves it, but nobody else seems to. And it's super Irish.

The Ready Penny's a fun down-to-earth spot! I love the Irish bartenders, and there's a pool table and darts and Guiness. What more do you need really? And so close to the subway if friends from other parts want to come visit.  There's also Legends on 35th Ave, with a nice bar menu, and seasonal Sam Adams (somehow I associate Boston with Ireland) Many of the patrons are Irish-American (and some of the bartenders have lived in JH for decades)

i go there. the vibe is friendly, the drinks are decently priced, it's clean....no, they don't have much in the way of 480-minute IPAs, but i'm more of a vodka drinker anyway.

When I lived in LIC I really liked Sage General Store. I once had a schnitzel-style skatewing there that was out of this world. Alobar's pretty nice as well and we went quite often since we lived nearby.

Also, congrats to Dudley and Co.!  I walked by the future home of The Queensboro yesterday and it looks like a great space. I can't wait to see what you guys have in store!

I hope you will start an Instagram and document the transformation of the space (I love seeing stuff like that  ;))

I can't tell you how thrilled I am to hear about a restaurant with American cuisine opening in Jackson Heights! I've been waiting for this for the past 13 years. Can't wait for you to open!!!

With Armando's and Dudley's The Queensboro coming to Northern too (let's not forget El Coyote)….it sounds like Northern just might become the dining destination that 37th should have.  I think that's great - maybe some of the landlords on 37th will get the message.  Looking forward to the new Northern establishments!

I am surprised Armondo's didn't take over the old "Il Felice" further down northern. That place seems much bigger. I still miss Luigis. We have been to Trieste a few times it was ok. Are they merging?

bellabella: Armondo's website says they are buying Trieste, not "merging" with it.

homeowner: I agree, but there is already quite a bit of good food right there: Chifa is excellent, and I've only been to Taste of Lahore once but enjoyed it a lot.  And Jax Inn is on the next block.   Now if we could only get rid of all the car dealerships...
