Also. Tea leaves as a source of bacterial infection? I've never heard of that. I will look into it, though.

Why is suggesting that the website is being paid off to post only positive comments about a business hurtful? Julie, we're dealing with someone who is clueless!
Further evidence: The fact that someone who has one bad experience at a business feels compelled to publically criticize that operation on a website is silly and self-centered.
This is a pattern in JH and probably other neighborhoods with self-important people. Some of the hottest discussions on JHfamilies are not about anything substantive but diatribes against local business people who offended someone's delicate sensibilities.
I'll try and stop by for breakfast this week. It's always a treat.

Great photo, Todd. Was checking out Astoria and JH. And yes so much was farmland. Looking forward to exploring the rest of the city. How did you discover this map?

Community Groups, Activities & Events / BUSY SPRING FOR TRAVERS PARK
« on: April 13, 2008, 10:23:16 PM »
A lot is going on at Travers Park and the various volunteer Friends teams.

Alexis Andrews and Alfonzo Quiroz have been doing great work on Family Fun Day (May 17 and Summer Sundays in the Park (our performance series in June and August, which will feature our first Grammy nominee performer).

Dudley Stewart is heading our park clean and green team, and also doing translation work on our Summer Sundays poster. Renee Stonebraker will be updating the beautiful poster that she designed for us).

Javier Ramirez-Baron (our community organizer from Queens Commutniy House) is becoming a familiar face in the park. He's been doing park surveys and working to develop park volunteers from our immigrant communities.

Mary Abbate, Donovan Finn, Todd Goldman, Helen Ho, Byron Muñoz, Will Sweeney, Zlati Rothman, Ed Westley and Len Maniace are working on a  grant proposal for a Green Agenda for Jackson Heights that could help make Jackson Height a greener more environmentally sustainable community - deadline April 23.

If we do get this grant, the Green Agenda will be developed out of a series of community meetings this fall. Stay tuned.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: baseball, kids and the new NYC ball parks
« on: April 02, 2008, 12:17:12 AM »
Thanks Todd.

The last few years we've been going to 4 or 5 games a year (at both stadiums), often buying the discount tickets, which I suspect will be in extremely short supply next year. See you Thursday.,

Restaurants & Food / Re: The Obligatory JH Starbucks Thread
« on: November 19, 2007, 09:47:47 PM »
Stopped by Espresso77 yesterday and the work is proceeding. The owners are friendly and said they are on target for a December opening.
I've got no problem with a Starbucks, but I'd rather support a good local place (which I'm hoping it will be) run by Jackson Heights residents - and two architects at that.
