Description

Each of us, in one way or another, has a tender heart. We bear the marks of misunderstandings, instability, and disappointments from our childhood. And it can be very hard to feel into those parts.

What we will practice through 21 days of meditation and contemplation together is the alchemy of pain into trust. We do this by learning to listen to our emotions, allowing them to tell us about ourselves. You transform pain into trust by going inside it, to find the treasure that lies buried deep inside you. But there's also no rush, and no set timetable for this. 

Each day will entail a 25-30 minute meditation. We'll start with a brief teaching or contemplation. You will listen in a place of peace and stillness, allowing yourself to be led on a contemplative journey through the emotions and beliefs that we experience in life.

The topics will often take the form of a binary opposition, because that is often how we look at the world, so that we can see how we often fall into the trap of a negative reaction and then can move toward a more positive and uplifting perspective or mindset. I will lead you through the contemplation, which may include stories, personal anecdotes, insights, tips, or suggestions for working with the topic for the day.

We'll then move into a place of stillness, grounding into our bodies and connecting with our breath, our intuition, our higher selves, or any other higher power you feel drawn to -- whatever piece needs to be called in that time.

The idea is to work with emotions that come up for you around these topics and issues. We learn to be with them, however they show up, and we notice the resistance to them. If you have a mindfulness practice already where you work with the breath, that is very helpful but not entirely essential. That is what we will be cultivating during these sessions.

Our goal, if there is a goal, is to move into a place of openness, trust, and acceptance. This will enable us to be with whatever arises in a way that allows the world to feel less threatening, to believe in ourselves and in the course of our lives.

I'm delighted to announce that meditation will resume this Sunday, from 6:15-6:45 pm, at 2nd Story Pilates + Yoga, 81-10 37th Avenue, 2nd floor.  It's a bilingual meditation class held in English and Spanish, and as a community class, it's donation-based ($5 or $10).  Sign up via www.secondstorymovement.com or the MindBody app.

Starting October 7, meditation moves to a weekly schedule!  Mondays (English) and Wednesdays (Spanish) at 8:15 pm.  This is a 30-minute community class, so we ask $5-10. 

From week to week, the class will vary the meditation techniques, from breath to guided to listening, and the postures, sitting, walking or laying on one's back, so that you can develop a meditation practice that works for you.  Practicing meditation in the evening is the perfect way to unwind your busy mind and prepare for a night of restful sleep.

These classes are in the back equipment room, so please use the equipment room buzzer.  No late arrivals. 81-10 37th Street.

Join me today at 4 pm for a 30-minute meditation at 2nd Story Pilates+Yoga, 81-10 37th Street, 2nd Fl.  In honor of today's gay pride parade, our meditation will focus on the importance of self-love.  Donation: $5-10.

Have you heard of chakras but don't really know what they are?  Have you read about and worked on your chakras but haven't yet experienced much change?  Are you ready to learn powerful techniques to clear your chakras of negative energy and emotional blockages?

If so, join Patrick Paul Garlinger at 2nd Story Pilates+Yoga (81-10 37th Ave., 2nd Fl.) for a chakra cleansing workshop in which he'll show you some powerful techniques for clearing them and dispel a number of myths about how chakras and energy really work.  Having experienced his own dramatic kundalini awakening, in which spiritual energy at the base of the spine is awakened and moves through the chakras, he can provide you with personal insights on how the chakras work and the benefits you can experience from doing your own spiritual chakra healing.  In addition, Patrick is a trained energy healer and conscious channel who will provide an individual chakra cleansing for each participant. 

Due to the intensive nature of this work, space is limited to 10 participants.

I will be leading a one-hour meditation class, from 2:30-3:30 pm, at 2nd Story Pilates+Yoga, 81-10 37th Avenue.  This is a community class, so only $8!  We'll practice breath meditation and walking meditation.  There will also be time for Q&A.  The class will be bilingual -- for any native Spanish speakers who need translation, I'll offer the instructions in both English and Spanish.

Experienced and brand-new practitioners welcome!  Only 10 spots left ... slots are filling up fast!

Learn one of the best techniques to reduce stress and enjoy greater peace!  This weekend I'll be leading meditation classes at 2nd Story Pilates+Yoga, 81-10 37th Avenue.  The first session in English is from 2:30, and the second session in Spanish from 3-3:30.  $5.
