The people living near 74th street are form all over asia.  The don't have necessarily have a common culture or religion.  A friend of mine from Delhi described walking down the street there as a nightmare because he was hearing so many different languages being spoke at once.  I suspect that if there were to be any tension it would be reflective of long standing issues, not something trivial like skirt length.

Unfortunately, according to the website, there is a limit of only 500 riders, and registration is already full. What gives? Don't we all have the right to bike around Queens? Other "Tours" of the Bronx and Brooklyn have thousands of participants.  Does anyone know what the restrictions are on someone just showing up and following the tour without having pre-registered?

Lapdanson,

All of the TA tours have registration caps. This year's Tour De Queens was the first and, like the rides in other boroughs, is sure to grow in the future.  We had a great turnout on a VERY hot day so I'm optimistic about next year.

This dreadnaught style guitar is Rosewood with a Spruce Top.  The sound and playability are both good.  This is a great instrument for the money.

I bought the guitar a several years ago when I was taking lessons regularly.
Its only been used indoors and has not been subjected to extremes of temperature or humidity.  I don't have time to play any more so I'm selling to buy a new bike frame. A guitar bag is included.

Real Estate & Home Improvement / Re: Jack Heights

I was in Park Slope on Saturday the 24th and saw one of MPC's Jack Heights ads in a bus shelter on 7th Ave and 3rd Street.  I lived in Park Slope from 94-01 and won't waste time talking about hos much that neighborhood has changed.  But I did wonder if the campaign might succeed in attracting some of the small business owners in Brooklyn to Jackson Heights.  The rent on 7th Ave in Park Slope can't be more than 37th Ave in Jackson Heights, can it?

I hope these adds attract the types of people that turned 5th Ave from a ghost town to a destination to move to JH.

I don't see how sexism has had much of a role in media coverage of Clinton.  She was the Democratic party's frontrunner and expected nominee for months.  Her talking points have consistently been regurgitated in the press whether it was on the topic of which states are most important, the fallicy of her being the most experienced, the complete disregard for caucuses as legitimate democratic processes and now her claim that there is still a contest going on in the Democratic primaries.

Real Estate & Home Improvement / Masonry and Metalwork Contractors
« on: May 20, 2008, 11:50:53 AM »
My coop is seeking bids to repair gutters near a few of the entranceways.  One of the lintels (metal support crossmember) is also failing and doing damage to the masonry.

Can anyone recommend contractors for one or both parts of this job?  If you have hired them please provide some information about the projects they have worked on.

LordB, I called Pet Chauffeur and they gave me a rate of $55 for a one way transport from JH to LIC.  Is this the rate that you were getting?

I had to talk to my better half about the charge and she thinks we paid $45.  We shared the pickup with a neighbors dog so it's possible we got a break on the price.  It's pricey either way, but it was worth it to not have to rush around when we had an early flight to catch.

Another option if you are not pinched for time is to use a car service.  That option would probably only cost you
$45 or so in total.

Any who back to cycling anyone doing the tour de queens?

How could I miss it!  My bike is a dark gray fixed gear with dorky looking double straps
and a butterfly bar.  Say hi if you see me.

I'm have been researching options to improve electronic communication at my coop and discovered that there are a number of relatively new social networking products targeted at homeowners' associations and coop/condo boards.  The most promising options that I have found so far are Lifeat, Villageloop and HOASpace.com. Has anyone had experience with this type of product?  I would also be interested in hearing about the adoption rate that others have seen with internet solutions in general - websites, online groups, etc.

The only comps that matter for JH coops are other sales in the same building.  You can't do a simple square footage calculation because there are too many differences in maintenance payments and amenities.  Try looking up the building you are interested in through ACRIS (Automated City Register Information System.)
This system will show you sales prices, refinances and other activity.

Pet Chauffeur is a pet transportation service that also has a boarding facility.  They are based in Long Island City
and you have the option of either dropping of your pet or paying to have them do the transport.  Dogs have an outdoor play area where they can socialize.  The website has pricing information.  I had a good experience with them
recently and would use the service again.
