Neighborhood Chat / LOST - PAIR OF PHONAK HEARING AIDS
« on: November 01, 2020, 01:22:22 AM »
Pair of Phonak hearing aids.  Lost between 77th St./35th Ave and 83rd St./Roosevelt Ave.  May have been lost separately or together; the mask took them off.  They look like the photo.  If anyone finds one/both, please call 646-881-4301.  They are expensive, and not insured.  I'm devastated by their loss.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Sure enough.  I went into the parking lot and there was a sign in the window that said "Closed by fire."

Thanks for the suggestions.  I took it into Stone the day I posted the notice, and they fixed it in a day, for $75, which seemed pretty reasonable for a store.  I will check out Hoan To if the situation comes up again, though (hopefully not).

Does anyone know of someone local who could repair my computer?  If you have experience using someone I would very much appreciate the information.

Thanks,

Mark

They will be coming to the city from Massachusetts June 23-30 and July 13-August 6.  They could also split up the time between several places.  He is accompanying her to the city as she is taking some intensive dance classes and doing auditions.  He is someone I have known for many years, and is totally responsible.  They would take good care of any place and any pets.  Please respond privately if you know of some situation or have any leads.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: 15+ Cars Vandalized on 85th Street
« on: April 22, 2010, 01:08:36 PM »
I had the windshield stolen right off my motorcycle several months ago while parked on 76th between 35th and 37th.  I actually waited (a long time) for the police to arrive so that I could make a report and it would appear on their statistics.  After my wait, they told me I'd have to go to the precinct, which was just too much trouble; so I never did.

The point of all of this is that I am certain that many or even most of these crimes to cars go unreported for reasons like mine; or because people don't want to wait for the cops to come.  Whatever the statistics for the precinct say about property crimes like this, the real figure is undoubtably way above that; maybe even epidemic.  It's always going on.  So we either have to go to the precinct meetings to make sure they understand the frequency with which this happens, and/or take the trouble to actually file reports so they will show up in the statistics and some attention will be paid to them.  I'm out quite a bit at night, and I virtually have never seen a patrol car in my area.

I don't know what kind of pieces you have, and whether the repairs involve simple soldering, or whether there's issues of setting stones, fabricating a whole new replacement part, enamel work, etc.   Makes a huge difference.  I took a sterling cufflink to the little place on 74th just below the corner of 37th Ave., east side of the street - they have a little sign that says "repairs."  They resoldered the back, and did a nice clean job for not much money.  You can negotiate the price.  - More complicated stuff, I can't comment on their expertise.  But someone has to fabricate and repair all those elaborate gold pieces that you see on 74th St., so if you ask around, you probably can find someone.  I know a guy on 47th St. in Manhattan that does immaculate work, and works on really high end pieces.  He's quite expensive, though.  If you want his name, contact me.

Semi-flush ceiling fixture with pearlized shade, bronze color, in the configuration of vines.  Very decorative.  Virtually untouched and unused; ready to install.  It takes one standard socket bulb, so you can put a 150w equivalent compact flourescent and get lots of light for very little money.  Looks great in these prewar apartments.  Originally cost $110. now $50.  Contact me here or at 718-424-5294
