Neighborhood Chat / Trivial mystery
« on: December 22, 2021, 03:52:27 PM »
.The Subway sandwich shop on Broadway between 74th/75 seems to have been abandoned for months - but a Grade Pending notice appears and disappears in one window. Nothing else in the chaotic interior seems to change. Ghost, perhaps? I'm hoping somebody moves in before snow since it was a perilous stretch of sidewalk left uncleared last time.

Neighborhood Chat / E-waste
« on: October 06, 2021, 07:16:03 PM »
Was sorry to be told that today was the last day E-waste would be accepted for recycling at the office of Senator Ramos. I've unloaded a fair amount the last few weeks. I think someone over on 31st Ave may still be doing it but it's kind of a trek. Hoping there will be a closer community event sometime. Asking the sanitation department to collect seems to involve hauling stuff to the curb in the wee small hours, not really feasible for us.

Thanks, yes, I'll be exploring the area, including access to Gantry park when it's cooler. I've been accustomed to going via Vernon-Jackson.

I went there yesterday. Very spacious and lovely daylight windows at the checkout. Would have been perfect if the elevator to the 7 train had been working - thanks to the kind young man who schlepped my bag up.the stairs. I'll try to familiarize myself with any alternative entrances next time. Very glad they opened!

Haven't been able to get to the greenmarket for a while but hoping to resume visits. Is there any news of the textile recycling?

70-06 Roosevelt Avenue
Haven't been but will take a look next time I'm walking that way. I missed it the first time around but with Farine closed it might do better.

Restaurants & Food / Re: Mango Rico @ 76th Street

Went in on Tuesday. Rather cramped (all the produce stores seem to be) but the entrance seems wider than usual. We're lucky to have so much choice of quality fruit and veg!

They opened. A bit sparse when I went in today so I guess they are just getting stocked up.

"expand the park space in Jackson Heights" - would be wonderful, but where?

"locals being forced off sidewalks by throngs of High Line visitors" - I do sympathize, but some of those sidewalks hardly accommodate one person. And 74th Street between Roosevelt and 37th can get very congested with large family clusters at times!
