Neighborhood Chat / Trivial mystery
« on: December 22, 2021, 03:52:27 PM »
.The Subway sandwich shop on Broadway between 74th/75 seems to have been abandoned for months - but a Grade Pending notice appears and disappears in one window. Nothing else in the chaotic interior seems to change. Ghost, perhaps? I'm hoping somebody moves in before snow since it was a perilous stretch of sidewalk left uncleared last time.

Neighborhood Chat / E-waste
« on: October 06, 2021, 07:16:03 PM »
Was sorry to be told that today was the last day E-waste would be accepted for recycling at the office of Senator Ramos. I've unloaded a fair amount the last few weeks. I think someone over on 31st Ave may still be doing it but it's kind of a trek. Hoping there will be a closer community event sometime. Asking the sanitation department to collect seems to involve hauling stuff to the curb in the wee small hours, not really feasible for us.

Neighborhood Chat / Textile recycling

Haven't been able to get to the greenmarket for a while but hoping to resume visits. Is there any news of the textile recycling?

70-06 Roosevelt Avenue
Haven't been but will take a look next time I'm walking that way. I missed it the first time around but with Farine closed it might do better.

Neighborhood Chat / Flushing library to be a vaccination center
« on: March 11, 2021, 12:30:14 AM »
Saw this story on a couple of the local news sites, which mentioned that other branches are planned to be used. Mainstream news reports "a flood" of vaccine expected shortly, so maybe it will be as easy as flu shots.

Neighborhood Chat / TD Bank 37th Ave
« on: March 11, 2021, 12:25:18 AM »
Just a note that you can now access the main area (tellers) without going through the phone check-in routine. They do have a guard at the door who I guess regulates the flow but it wasn't crowded when I was there. I tried to deposit some checks at the ATM  but after a couple it kept rejecting them, so I was glad to be able to complete the deposit inside.

Can anyone identify this gate shown at https://facebook.com/groups/jacksonheights/ please? Is it Forest Park? I'd rather not join the group to ask because facebook...

Neighborhood Chat / Walking conditions
« on: December 19, 2020, 10:10:54 PM »
Has anybody been on Roosevelt and/or 37th Ave today? Wondering how much snow has been cleared, the intersections and side streets. Thanks for any reports!

Neighborhood Chat / Plastic Bags
« on: November 17, 2020, 06:32:54 PM »
I'm a bit puzzled why some markets continue to use them - is there a "until the stock is exhausted" loophole? (Not complaining since I find them very convenient to hang up for recycling, but wondering.)

Neighborhood Chat / TD Bank

Does anyone have any word when the branch on 37th might reopen? I asked by email a few days ago but haven't had any response except a generic acknowledgment.

Restaurants & Food / Asian market at Broadway and 75th is open
« on: April 28, 2020, 01:21:54 PM »
Was there around 9.30 (no line) and they do have fish but looked as if still setting up. Mask, gloves, and the door attendant aimed a thermometer at my forehead, then squirted sanitizer on my gloves. They have distance markers.

Other markets (between abut 10 and noon): Foodtown and later Patel longer lines than I could face.

Key Food no line.

Growing farm no line.

Mango Rico short line. They have those big blueberries, 18oz, 2 for $5

Downtown Natural short line but long delay letting people in.

Lemon Farm no line.

Kim still looks rather cramped, didn't try.

Restaurants & Food / Grapes
« on: April 15, 2020, 12:02:09 AM »
Growing Farm today (Tuesday) had those long-shaped (fingerling? black sapphire?) seedless black grapes for 99 cents a pound. They look weird but the flavor is wonderful. I stocked up while the going was good. Also had 6oz blueberries 2 for a buck. Tomorrow who knows! Also anise/fennel for $1.99.

I wonder what the street cart guys are doing?
