i'm sticking with my initial thought. no one on earth cares this much about "market plates." :)

I mean, I think you’re wrong. And for what it’s worth, that is just an easier term to describe a clean, healthy portion of  “protein, veggies, sides, etc”.  I think folks would very much appreciate a spot like that done right.

I admit that I have not been reading here, so hope this info is pertinent.

I walked along Northern Blvd. today and passed Divina Juice Bar, @85th across from RiteAid (718-457-0193) which sells bowls: acai, yogurt, fruit and others.

Cool thanks, good to know.  Looks good in terms of juices and acai. Legit juice bar. For that it looks great.

I guess I am still more talking about food though. Market plarea, wraps, etc like was mentioning in the OP.  Def thanks for the heads up tho.

I've been focusing on losing some weight over the last couple of months, and I'm hard pressed to think of at least one meal at every restaurant I frequent that's at least an okay option when I go out to eat.

Yeah because there are no spots like the thread is based on!

yes, the rent thing. this is not something *most* people would be into, but it is something that people would head to if they knew it was there.

I suppose I would argue that it is not as niche of a thing as you may be asserting. I truly think a ton of people are interested in eating cleaner in this day and age.

just curious, Michael:

you're a new user who's posted pretty exclusively on this topic and seem to have a good grasp of the neighborhood and the culinary concept....are you pondering opening a spot, perhaps?

Honestly, not at all. I lack the aptitude, drive, or patience to be a business owner.  Not my forté in the least.  My lady lives there and I often crave something along these lines in the neighborhood when I’m there.  And I had (have) a suspicion that there are many who feel the same. I think someone could have a successful go at it.

dog you don't even live in the neighborhood and you're trying to muck it up with focus-less places like create?

at least move here before you try and homogenize the neighborhood.

why does every neighborhood have to be the same? if you want this to be brooklyn than just move to brooklyn? if you can't afford brooklyn than make your health bowls at home. you can call it the 'brooklyn bowl'

Interesting.  NIMBY fear concerning a bowl of quinoa/acai.

I do think Caffe Bene on 37th Ave sells these "Brooklyn/Astoria style" bowls.  But I've never tried them so can't speak for their quality.  Has anyone tried them?

Cafe Benne is alright. They have some decent options for sure. The one in JH is actually probably the best one I have been too.

Dog....I had a feeling somebody would eventually somehow take offense at the notion of literally one healthy type takeout spot.  Nobody is trying to homogenize anything. I have a gut feeling that you are very much pro-diversity. Well, diversity includes a diverse group of people and diverse businesses.  If one establishment (that people of all backgrounds would certainly enjoy) were to hypothetically open, and that somehow would hypothetically bother you...then you are not really into diversity.

Relax and understand that I feel it’s important for people of all socioeconomic backgrounds to have conveniently located options for fuel that they put in their bodies.  It’s truly nothing more than that.

got it. it was just an idle question. i do think there's room for what you're craving, but i think it is a niche market and might have to open in a less-trafficked, less high-rent space. maybe a side street a la E77 or Dosa Delight (a favorite that *can* be healthy if navigated properly) or the stretch of lower 35th where Legends is.

The stretch where Legends is would be incredible. That’s where she lives haha. Why do you think a less trafficked area like that would work better though?  Cause of rent simply?  I would have thought the opposite...

I agree with Michael82--the assumption that the desire for healthier food is some sort of affectation of the more privileged people among us is unfortunate. Is this Ripe Juice Bar long gone from Forest Hills, I wonder?

the desire to eat healthy is by no means limited to the more privileged or to people of certain ethnicities -- having lived in areas of Brooklyn with large Caribbean populations, i learned to love the vegetarian (and mostly healthy) restaurants there. acai bowls and kale smoothies, those might be upper middle class affectations, but eating healthy? certainly not.

Just to reiterate. I am talking more about market plate type dishes, healthy wraps or sandwiches, rice/quinoa bowls, oatmeal/breakfast wraps, etc as opposed to kale smoothies.  I think many folks would be into that type of option.

I had my first ever poke bowl last night in Astoria. I wouldn't mind a poke place here.

I Uber eats poke from possibly the same place when I’m in JH every now and again.

I’ll take a gander at K&L. Thanks...

I literally went yesterday haha. No joke. Was with me girl around that way and happened upon it, having never heard of it. Then I happened to see this ancient thread. Pretty strange actually.

Place was delicious btw. I got sliced grilled steak, steamed veggies, and black beans. Not at all overly salty, but still tasty. Clean. This is not all about acai bowls and smoothies. More about more options to get real, clean food on the go if one wants.

Stop trying to raise the rents of honest immigrant workers of JH. If you want your acai bowls and smoothies, go to Forest Hills!

Healthy food is for everyone. We have Just Made 4 U. We could use some other options.

Yes. This. This is not some plea on my part to try and gentrify people out of any neighborhood.  Far from it.  Frankly, it’s almost insulting to assume that honest immigrants would not love an option like this.  People of all backgrounds are into fitness these days and trying to eat cleaner.

Perusing the forum, I see this thread from 11 years ago.  Still no quality healthy takeout spot like Ripe.  Obviously something I am craving, as per my current thread.  Just thought it interesting to find this one from so long ago.  I am really not understanding the reluctance by somebody to go for it.  It would stand out in a sea of spanish, asian, and middle eastern spots.

I went to one of the Create locations for breakfast today. I told the owner that JH is untapped potential and waiting for someone to do it right. He said he gets requests for various areas often. He asked me about what the main avenues/streets are, etc.  Said he’ll look into it.  He won’t...
