Neighborhood Chat / Community Broadband
« on: February 26, 2021, 04:13:13 PM »
Just putting this out to gauge folks interest in community broadband.  Certainly at scale, for example, 500 MBS - 1 Gig service can be provided well through pricing of any current providers (probably $30-$50 a month, maybe less). For comparison, and this could happen in the US, South Korea has the fastest broadband in the world for $30 month.  As background, our building is exploring alternatives to traditional telecoms, and perhaps a JH based community broadband could be offered through a newly created non-profit to scale initiatives neighborhood wide.  Anyway, just curious.

One week to go....just a reminder to come support JHBG. And if you can attend, please feel free to donate anyway to support this great local organization.

In 2019, the Jackson Heights Beautification Group sponsored over 100 events in the neighborhood! From Summer Sundays to the Halloween Parade, gardening to the Holiday Lighting, we love our community. We do this with support from our neighbors. Join us at our annual Holiday Party and Fundraiser on December 9th at the Queensboro as we celebrate.

Buy tickets here: https://www.jhbg.org/about/donate.

More info on the event here:  https://www.jhbg.org/2019/11/30/2019-jhbg-fundraiser

Sorry to inform you, but it isn't your parking space; residents don't actually own the 12 feet under their vehicles.  Street parking is a privilege, not a right.

When studies show that cars have a 95% non-usage rate, car sharing seems like a better way to leverage the resources of our community for the benefit of more residents.

Restaurants & Food / Casa del Chef in Woodside
« on: January 10, 2016, 04:17:06 PM »
Sorry if I am late to the game, but I believe Casa del Chef in Woodside, is one of the best restaurants in Queens - it's a place you "want to take your parents."  The staff is warm and welcoming, and the food is warm and wonderful.  Greens are mainly bought fresh and local, and it's menu is conscientious and seasonal.

We went as a group of six last night after making a reservation earlier in the day.  We were greeted with an amazingly warm apertif called a canelazo - so good.  We didn't get to see the very talented chef - a  Blue Hill alum - as he was in the back all night plating the beautiful dishes.  The incorporation of local produce into dishes seasoned with the rich Ecuadorian flavors was fantastic.

It is expensive (like Manhattan), but it's worth it. Nice to find a new date night spot.

Great new grocery & wellness spot on Northern between 80th and 81st.

Super friendly.  They want to provide residents close to Northern healthier local shopping / wellness options in addition to Mi Tierra.

Good luck.
