Neighborhood Chat / Community Broadband
« on: February 26, 2021, 04:13:13 PM »
Just putting this out to gauge folks interest in community broadband.  Certainly at scale, for example, 500 MBS - 1 Gig service can be provided well through pricing of any current providers (probably $30-$50 a month, maybe less). For comparison, and this could happen in the US, South Korea has the fastest broadband in the world for $30 month.  As background, our building is exploring alternatives to traditional telecoms, and perhaps a JH based community broadband could be offered through a newly created non-profit to scale initiatives neighborhood wide.  Anyway, just curious.

Neighborhood Chat / PS1 is Free!!!!!!!
« on: October 09, 2015, 03:53:10 PM »
A totally modern concept, for a modern museum; making a museum free.  And only in Queens.

http://queens.brownstoner.com/2015/10/moma-ps1-long-island-city-museum-free/

If anyone cares to write a thank you note, letting them know that Jackson Heights cares about the arts, they can be addressed to:

The Anna-Maria & Stephen Kellen Foundation
C/O Joel E. Sammet & Co.
15 Maiden Lane, Suite 500
NY, NY 10038

Starting this Sunday (October 11), the Long Island City contemporary art center, an affiliate of the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan, will waive admission fees for New York City residents for about a year, thanks to a grant from the Anna-Maria & Stephen Kellen Foundation. In order to qualify, visitors will have to present proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or a current utility bill.

The promotion is timed to coincide with the unveiling of a new exhibition, Greater New York, which will showcase work by 157 emerging artists living and working in the New York metropolitan area. The offer will sunset on October 15, 2016, when MoMa PS1 will be celebrating its 40th anniversary.

I'm volunteering to help with the bike lane campaign that some of you may seen. We'll be collecting signatures this Saturday at the Travers Park unveiling.

1. If you like the idea of the bike lanes in Queens, please stop by our table to sign our petition. We need as many paper signatures as we can. Pretty please!!!

2. If you would you like to volunteer to help us collect signatures THIS Saturday at the Travers park unveiling, please send an email to qnsbike@gmail.com

3. If you like free t-shirts, volunteer on Saturday.  We have a great logo (www.qns.bike).

This can be one-time only help, and you do NOT have to commit to keep campaigning ..... though we are not going to stop you.

THANK YOU!
