you're right Addictive belongs on the list. Have two little kids so I don't get drinking much -- just forgot about them.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: bike shop tune up

I've been to Jimmy's. It's an amazing place and very very inexpensive, but (a) no english at all and (b) it's oriented to fixing up delivery bikes, so if you've got a high end road bike and ask for a tune up they may look at you funny. That said, I LOVED it and will definitely go back

I live very close to the salvation army -- the music was loud, slightly annoying I guess, but hardly obnoxious. It hadn't started when my wife and i left the house just after 10a, and it ended promptly around 5pm. I don't understand what people are so spun up about. It's just a street party. Welcome to New York City

Restaurants & Food / Re: Addictive Wine and Tapas
« on: April 10, 2016, 10:09:57 AM »
I agree. My wife and I had dinner Friday night, and it was lovely. As others have said, it's small plates, but you can easily make a meal of it, because the tapas are so good. Great wine too, and the ambiance is wonderful. It's pretty impressive what they've done with such a small space.

the spikes are useless. We've found scare tape to be helpful.

also the mixed cocktail. and the grilled fish taco. Weird location aside, it's criminal that Esquina isn't jam packed all the time.

had lunch here yesterday. it was hopping, and surprisingly good. Burger was greasy and delicious, and the service was pretty good considering the really reasonable prices. Overall it was really impressive but I wish they had beer. Will definitely return again (and again and again).

It was this comment:

Also, I think it's important to not buy into the Jackson Heights food hype.

For example, there are lots of media outlets that are promoting the idea that Arepa Lady's arepas are orgasmic. In fact, they are not only unhealthy, but they are greasy, poor imitations of a well made crepe. What I've just said doesn't fit the PR narrative behind Arepa Lady, nor the narrative being sold by the people involved in her expansion, but it's the truth.

I'd also suggest that you go to South America, where you will discover that there are restaurants offering highly interesting food, none of which is being offered by the latin restaurants in our neighborhood. There is great food in Bogota, MedellĂn and Cartegena, but not here. South American food in Jackson Heights is 20 years behind South America.

Tacky. Very tacky.

I'm looking forward to Stew's opening. Also to the Yelp-induced schadenfreude that seems almost inevitable at this point.

sweet yummy is great -- I'm a big fan of the fish with pickled turnips and spicy sauce. Plus, they deliver.

Why is it important to you (or anyone, besides maybe the banana republic marketing dept) that it look like other banana factory stores? I'm sorry, I just don't understand the complaint.

What's wrong with the sign? It looked good to me, but maybe I'm missing something.

if you like Goose Island, try Stone Pale Ale (or the IPA, which I find too hoppy but is still good). Captain Lawrence and Sixpoint both do good IPAs (Sixpoint's is called Bengali Tiger). And all of those can be found in a good bodega.
