Neighborhood Chat / return of the windshield flyers
« on: July 01, 2021, 06:04:51 PM »
Several years back Jackson Heights was flooded with flyers placed on the windshields of cars.  The flyers inevitably littered the streets and sidewalks, adding to the already existing trash.  This evening, in the  70's and on 34th avenue,  I saw a resurgence of the problem with several streets littered with flyers from Quality Medical Provider at 86-47 164 street Jamaica NY 11432  (718) 206 1288/ 718 6582448.  If anyone is bothered by this, or the increase in the amount of trash, as much as I am, call and make a complaint directly or to the community board.  If you find one on your car, please dispose of it in a trash can and not onto the street. There are better ways of advertising without having to trash the neighborhood.

Neighborhood Chat / early closures
« on: April 21, 2020, 05:44:34 PM »
It does not make sense to me that several stores are operating on shorted hours and  and days opened.  You would think that the stores would stay open longer to reduce the length of waiting times and lines.  What's the reason for this?

Neighborhood Chat / emergency food
« on: April 14, 2020, 12:48:44 PM »
I was taking a break from "isolation"  and walking down 37th Avenue.  There is a pharmacy on the south side of the street between 85 and 86th street with a large banner in front.  I don't remember the exact wording but it said something like "Coronavirus emergency food kits"  Just was wondering what that was about.  I haven't noticed any shortage of food in the stores.

Neighborhood Chat / Foot doctor
« on: November 13, 2019, 05:23:07 PM »
Just wanted to share a rare find. If anyone is in need of a foot doctor, I highly recommend Dr. Victor Chen. He is patient,  a competent communicator, and most importantly an excellent listener. I was recently treated by him and really satisfied. He is located at 33-54 83ed street (entrance on 34th avenue).

Neighborhood Chat / Sex trafficing Ring
« on: January 05, 2019, 11:50:31 AM »
The Rendon-Reyes family operated their sex trafficking ring for over a decade in the streets of Jackson Heights and now they’ll learn their fate this week after they plead guilty to human trafficking and money laundering.
“They forced them to abort, they beat them with baseball bats to ensure they continued to abide by what they were required as it pertains to prostitution,” said Angel Melendez, Special Agent In Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New York City.
They used fear and intimidation to not only force their multiple victims into prostitution but also to become their personal sex slaves, according to prosecutors.
“Some of these women were required to perform sexual acts 45 times a night,” said Melendez. “In one instance, they took the victim in a van and she would be prostituted multiple times by several clients that would be standing outside in a line waiting to have sex with this victim”
From 2004 until 2015, they ran brothels in New York, Georgia and Alabama, prosecutors said. They would traffic women, including underage girls from Mexico and force them into sex work, luring them with promises of a better life.
“They operate as a family business,” said Melendez. “They are brothers, one sister and the remaining four are cousins.”
The eight defendants all face charges of sex trafficking and money laundering. Sentencing is expected to last until the end of the week.

Neighborhood Chat / Where were you on 9/11
« on: September 11, 2018, 10:18:39 AM »
I work in Bkl'yn and one of the things I would do in the morning was to look at the WTC as it would lift my spirits, especially on such a clear day. I arrived at word and had to double park bc of alternate side parking. At the appropriate time, I went to move my car. The sky was gray, (after the planes hit) and it was raining ash and shreds  of paper.  As I went to wipe off my car which was covered in ash, I reached down and picked up an American Airline seat number. I placed it back on the ground not realizing the importance it held.  To this day I often wonder who sat in that seat.

Restaurants & Food / Additcive and the DOH
« on: March 31, 2018, 09:42:28 AM »
Was considering going to Addictive to eat/drink.  My partner searched the DOH website (this is his usual practice as he is in the business), only to find they had received 29 violation points, four of which were critical.  Does anyone know if they were closed?

Neighborhood Chat / Yet again another car fatality
« on: October 24, 2017, 08:32:25 AM »
http://qns.com/story/2017/10/23/police-seeking-driver-killed-51-year-old-jackson-heights-man-corona-hit-run/.          I was wondering  how people feel about the use of cameras as a deterrent to reckless driving.  In this instance, there might of been a possile identification of the driver who drove off.
