Neighborhood Chat / return of the windshield flyers
« on: July 01, 2021, 06:04:51 PM »
Several years back Jackson Heights was flooded with flyers placed on the windshields of cars.  The flyers inevitably littered the streets and sidewalks, adding to the already existing trash.  This evening, in the  70's and on 34th avenue,  I saw a resurgence of the problem with several streets littered with flyers from Quality Medical Provider at 86-47 164 street Jamaica NY 11432  (718) 206 1288/ 718 6582448.  If anyone is bothered by this, or the increase in the amount of trash, as much as I am, call and make a complaint directly or to the community board.  If you find one on your car, please dispose of it in a trash can and not onto the street. There are better ways of advertising without having to trash the neighborhood.

This avenue should be closed to pedestrians on weekends only.  Daily closure increases traffic conditions, idling  and noise on all the other roads....Northern, 35th and and 37th. I get that people like to take a stroll but the median on 34th is not a park.  The needs of the people who don't have cars doesn't out weigh the needs of the  people  who need them for work and family.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Mask Wearing / Not Mask Wearing
« on: June 20, 2020, 02:43:46 PM »
I never wear a mask in public, unless required by a store. The most current immunological and serological medical research completed by the SWISS POLICY REASEARCH  center states that there is a 0.1% lethality rate for COVID, same as a strong seasonal influenza. Up to 80% of test positive persons remain symptom free. The mortality rate in the US, UK, and Sweden are the same as a strong influenza season. If you wear a mask, chances are  you reduce your "herd" immunity.  There is no scientific evidence that mask are effective for healthy asymptomatic persons and that wearing a mask may interfere with normal respiration.  The report list about 30 points regarding COVID.  I especially am concerned when I see small children wearing mask and wonder how much damage is being done only form a health perspective but from a developmental point of view.  Facial expressions are a critical part of language learning and development.  A smile from a stranger, a grimace, a  frown, a look of anticipation...I can go on..... all carry meaning. Children growing up without seeing the faces of those around them are sure to suffer the most regarding their ability to perceive nuanced  information.

Neighborhood Chat / early closures

It does not make sense to me that several stores are operating on shorted hours and  and days opened.  You would think that the stores would stay open longer to reduce the length of waiting times and lines.  What's the reason for this?

Most places  are not selling b/c hospitals and nurses are in need.  Best to use a neckerchief or shear scarf. Same difference.

Someone should forward this thread  to Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who after making several PSA's about this very topic goes and gets her haircut stating that "b/c she's out in the public eye and takes her personal hygiene very seriously".  What arrogance.  Does that mean that everyone else is rolling around in mud all day.  She , unlike us, takes her hygiene very seriously.   SERIOUSLY!  And De Blasio taking off to the gym.

I was taking a break from "isolation"  and walking down 37th Avenue.  There is a pharmacy on the south side of the street between 85 and 86th street with a large banner in front.  I don't remember the exact wording but it said something like "Coronavirus emergency food kits"  Just was wondering what that was about.  I haven't noticed any shortage of food in the stores.

Did they post a menu of their cheeses/or goodies on line.  I buy something different each time I go!

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Proposed changes to JH bus network
« on: January 12, 2020, 11:00:16 AM »
I take the  Q49 on occasion. If I have a meeting in Manhattan or on the weekend.  Last week, 3 buses passed me by b/c of overcrowding.  I would venture to say that 98% of the people who take this bus, myself included,  are going to the train on 74th street. This translates into one fare that  pays for both bus and train service, which means a loss or revenue for the MTA.  I really hope that they keep the Q49 the way it is.  It would mean a hardship for all of us, especially the seniors

I usually drive to work but had a meeting in the city yesterday. I waited for the Q49 for quire awhile.  Three buses passed my stop and did not pickup passengers because they were all too full.  Certainly there is a need for this route. Still not sure on the rationale as to why they want to get rid of it.

The recent threads regarding awning and canopies can be viewed in a similar vein.  It's an accident waiting to happen.
