Restaurants & Food / Foodtown - 37th Avenue
« on: March 26, 2021, 12:37:03 PM »
Recently, I've noticed there are always hundreds and hundreds of boxes in the aisles at Foodtown.  I didn't actually count, but I don't think I'm exaggerating.  Has it always been like this?  Or, am I just starting to notice it?  Seems out of hand and makes for a less than enjoyable shopping experience.

But, they've got the best deals so I continue to shop there.

Neighborhood Chat / Scaffolding coming down
« on: January 02, 2021, 03:42:57 PM »
The scaffolding above the Capitol One bank at the corner of 37th Avenue and 82nd Street has come down revealing the beautiful building behind it.  Hopefully, the street level scaffolding will be soon to follow.  A welcome subtraction to the neighborhood.   :)

Neighborhood Chat / Roosevelt Ave/74th Street Subway Station
« on: September 25, 2019, 11:13:16 PM »
There are literally pigeon droppings on the turnstiles that have been there for I don't know how long.  The window ledges just beyond the turnstiles are covered with pigeon droppings.  Beyond the disgust, could this pose a health hazard?  I cannot believe these conditions would be tolerated on the upper east side or anywhere in Manhattan for that matter.  Why do they exist here?  And.........what can be done about it?

Neighborhood Chat / Honking
« on: September 13, 2019, 05:24:47 PM »
Is it my imagination, or is the honking in the neighborhood just getting worse and worse and worse?  Fridays after work it is almost unbearable.  What gives?  Why is everyone honking their horns?  There used to be "No honking" signs in the neighborhood.  Bring them back!

Neighborhood Chat / Spectrum (Time Warner) TV
« on: May 09, 2018, 06:47:15 AM »
For about a month, the universal remote for my TV (Spectrum) has been very, very slow to respond.....ie. program guide, changing channels, etc.  I changed the batteries, but there was no improvement.  Now, for nearly a week, the program guide for the TV is "not available."  I'm wondering, are others in the area having the same issues?

Neighborhood Chat / Awnings along 37th Avenue
« on: April 07, 2018, 11:41:38 AM »
Do the awnings along 37th Avenue ever get replaced?  When they are in good shape, they do add character to the neighborhood.  Unfortunately, the state most of them are in now is so sad.  A good cleaning might save some, but there are quite a few that simply need to be replaced.

Neighborhood Chat / Dogs at the greenmarket
« on: October 01, 2017, 12:59:38 PM »
Does anyone else think the pit bulls should not be allowed to attend the market?

Posts about dogs at the greenmarket were split off from another thread in the Restaurants and Food forum to form this new topic. -- Mod

Neighborhood Chat / Construction on 80th Street
« on: January 04, 2017, 11:36:00 AM »
Does anyone know what work is being done on 80th street between 35th and 37th Avenues?  And why aren't residents informed before major work is begun?

Neighborhood Chat / Do You Fear What I Fear?

Do You Fear What I Fear?

Climate change?  Zika?  The opioid epidemic?  No.  But, truth be told, 2016 has seen me morph into a bona fide political junkie.

From CNN to Meet the Press
SNL to PBS....
From MSNBC to Fox
To election day and the ballot box.

There was Cooper and Maddow, O'Reilly and Hayes
To guide me through this political maze.
Ivanka, Bernie, Christie and Mitt
And dweebish John Kasich who just wouldn't quit.
There was Priebus, POTUS, Podesta and Pence
Pundits and polling where little made sense.
Conflicts of interest and countless attacks--
An Emoluments Clause, emails and hacks.
Tic Tacs and tweets and no chance to escape
From an eleven-year-old Access Hollywood tape!
And Clinton and Kaine left singin' the blues--
"OMFG!  How the hell did we lose?"

'Tis the season to be jolly?
Fa la la la la, la la la laaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!

I wish everyone in Jackson Heights a wonderful holiday.  I'll probably be spending mine with Anderson Cooper.

Neighborhood Chat / Honking
« on: May 06, 2016, 05:18:52 PM »
What is up with the all the honking in the neighborhood?  We used to have "No Honking" street signs on our street which I thought were silly.  They were removed a few years ago.  Since then, it seems the honking has escalated.  Drivers are laying on their horns and other drivers are joining in.  (As if that is really going to solve the problem ahead.)  I find it far more bothersome than the airplane noise we have to contend with every now and then.  Am I going crazy.........or, is this really becoming a problem?
