Neighborhood Chat / Crime
« on: April 06, 2020, 06:41:32 PM »
Is crime going up recently over the past couple of weeks? I recently started using the Citizen App to keep an eye on what's going on around our area, and I'm seeing lots of incidents being reported of people with a knife, a stabbing, etc. Wasn't sure if this was typical and I just wasn't aware of it before, or if we are starting to see more crime?

Neighborhood Chat / People Come to Apartment "verifying" Con Ed Bills
« on: September 10, 2017, 07:48:44 PM »
Had a guy knock on my door this afternoon saying he was with Con Ed, wanting to see my bill to verify something.

He was pushy, and made me a little uneasy.

I think it was a scammer, so I asked him to leave. He said he would be back in two weeks to verify.

Have others had this experience? Are these people with Con Ed or trying to get my account number for a scam?

Not sure how they get in the buildings..

Neighborhood Chat / Local Elections
« on: October 07, 2016, 08:49:31 AM »
With election approaching in November, wanted to inquire if there's any crucial local elections we should be aware of / local issues being voted on?

Presidential race dominates the headlines, but local elections have more of an impact on our everyday lives.

I'm not knowledgable on our local politics, but would like to know and participate.

Sun Equity Partners and the Heskel Group is planning a new 160,000-square-foot building on a Jackson Heights site that currently houses a former movie theater, sources told The Real Deal.
The firms recently acquired the property on the site at 40-31 82nd Street for $27 million.
The new building is expected to hold more than 100,000 feet of community space and, on the ground floor and lower level, 45,000 feet of retail space, sources said.
The seller was Sona Realty Corp, which had owned it for more 25 years, property records show. The Jackson Theater was built on the site in the 1930s.
The deal closed this week for around $168 per buildable square foot. David Alani of Inline Realty represented the buyers, and dealt directly with the seller.
Yeheskel Elias, CEO of the Forest Hills-based development firm Heskel Group, said the area is heavily populated, and the plan is to extend the retail corridor on 82nd street in order to meet growing demand.
“We are trying to transform the area by bringing in more well-known tenants,” he told The Real Deal.
A representative for Midtown-based Sun Equity Partners could not be immediately reached.
