Neighborhood Chat / litter near 74th / Roosevelt subway station
« on: April 25, 2018, 06:13:56 PM »
Anyone knows what could be done reduce littering in 73, 74th street area, by the express station? It's a lot dirtier than the 7 stop on 82nd street. A lot.

With Diversity Plaza being finished eventually, a feature that could be nice will be gross if litter remains as it is now.  I would love to start a 311 enforcement call campaign.

Anyone has other ideas?

According to the city:
"Residential property owners must clean the sidewalks adjoining their property and 18 inches from the curb into the street. Sanitation agents can only issue violations for dirty sidewalks in front of residential property from 8 AM to 9 AM and from 6 PM to 7 PM, 7 days a week. Enforcement times may differ for properties used for both commercial and residential purposes.

Commercial property owners must clean the sidewalks adjoining their property and 18 inches from the curb into the street. Enforcement times are limited to two 1-hour periods per day and vary according to which sanitation section the address is located in.

Business owners can also request a commercial enforcement routing sticker, which lists the times during which the Department of Sanitation can issue tickets for dirty sidewalks and gutters."

Good tips will be appreciated and thoroughly tested. Thank you.

Neighborhood Chat / Travers Park / Staunton Field Redesign
« on: September 25, 2013, 09:08:11 PM »
The former athletic field from the Garden School, now an expansion of Travers Park, was dedicated Setp. 23 as Rory Staunton Field, in memory of a student from that school who died last year from sepsis. More about Rory here: http://www.jhgreen.org/wordpress/?p=170

Councilman Dromm announced during the dedication plans for a visioning session of Travers Park redesign on Saturday, Oct. 26. More on JHBG facebook page:

Neighborhood Chat / New mass transit line could pass through JH
« on: July 29, 2013, 09:40:26 AM »
A NYT piece mentioning an idea to create a select bus line linking the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn, that would have a stop in Jackson Heights:
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/29/opinion/a-straphangers-campaign.html?hp&_r=0

It's called the "Triboro Rx Line" -- or just the "X line" -- and was first proposed in 1996. It would use a railroad path that the city already has the right of way. The difference now is that the proposal is to use select bus service -- "express buses in dedicated lanes, like rubber-wheeled trains" -- instead of subway trains. It is included in Christine Quinn's agenda and she says that buses would make it cheaper and faster to implement.

I dug a bit to see if I could find the stops, and found this link, from a guy who worked on the project: http://frumin.net/ation/2007/06/le_triboro_rx.html. You can download a GoogleEarth file here with the stops: http://transit.frumin.net/trx/data/kml/trx-subway-network.kml

In short, 2 JH stops: 74th st and Northern Blvd. The northbound express bus would connect JH directly to Astoria, up to the Yankee Stadium. The southbound route would go to Ridgewood, Sunset Park and end at Bay Ridge in Brooklyn.

Real Estate & Home Improvement / Spending in major building repairs
« on: July 10, 2013, 12:19:37 AM »
Hi, everyone. Quick question: How much is your co-op expecting to spend in major repairs and replacements in the next few years? How many units does your building have? I'm trying to figure out what is the average of Jackson Heights considering the age and size of the buildings. It would be a great help if you can share this information. Thanks much!

Neighborhood Chat / Travers Park
« on: July 02, 2013, 07:46:30 PM »
Hi, all. First time posting here. The city bought new land to expand Travers Park in February. (Here in case you missed it: http://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/traverspark/pressrelease/21107) Does anyone know if there are plans to add more green space to the park? What do you think would be nice to have there?
