Restaurants & Food / Al Araf Halal - 76 Street & 37 Ave
« on: March 02, 2014, 04:26:50 PM »
A new fried chicken (and everything else) place has opened on 37th Ave...in a prime location...near the 76th street corner.

Rarely have I seen more clashing colors... and an aesthetically discordant decor. Mirror tiles, loud shades of red and a multitude of signs screaming...

It hurts a person's eyes going into that joint...

No idea what the food is like.  Won't be able to enter again until I wear my dark sunglasses...

Neighborhood Chat / JH restaurant aspirations

I can only speak from personal experience...in Brooklyn or Manhattan, if a venue is excellent...folks will go out of their way to patronize it.  It becomes a magnet for an area.

Are you saying that here in Jackson Heights, people are more frightened about leaving their comfort zones?

Are we not as bold as folks in other New York boroughs? That's a genuine question.

The new bakery/cafe El Rico Tinto opened today on 37th Ave.

Briefly went in...it seems nice.

Bought a spinach baked empanada...(Argentinian style) for $1.50

Delicious.

Restaurants & Food / Famous Famiglia Pizza

The lights are there... (and very occasionally on)... but nobody's home.

Does anyone know why the Famous Famiglia Pizza place in the 74th Street/Roosevelt subway has been in the dark for over a year now?

Shela Xoregos brings CIRCLE OF HAUNTS, a one hour ghost opera with dance to libraries in Manhattan this February.
Performances are free.

For more information on times and places see here...

www.xoregos.com

Strange and dramatic, this opera creates a mood that spooks.

During CIRCLE OF HAUNTS, and perhaps the highlight of it, an unexpected and wondrous choreographed dance between two spirits, Carolina Santos Reade and Josiah Guitian almost steals the show.

Young Benjamin Slater as Miles captures a cruel youngster well while Mary Orzano gives a notable performance as Miss Jessel.

The costumes by Maria Rosario are also impressive.

Congratulations to Shela Xoregos and her hard working troupe for continuing to bring theater, music and dance to our libraries here in New York.
