Neighborhood Chat / Pediatrician
« on: October 28, 2013, 09:07:42 PM »
I need a recommendation for a pediatrician here in Jackson Heights (or Elmhurst), My baby has one but she is in Astoria and its a pain finding parking there. Also she's planning to move majority of her practice to downtown Manhattan, so will ultimately need to find one anyway. Baby's 7 weeks old.

I would hope to find someone who's available 24/7 (as much as practical) on the phone :) Most of the pediatricians seem to do that. My current one does it.

Neighborhood Chat / Payment Protection?
« on: February 07, 2013, 04:44:02 PM »
I had a person come to my apartment from Starion Energy and he started talking about Payment Protection, something in lines of paying the same rate per kilowatt/hour. He said our area had been selected for fluctuating energy bills/rates etc. Did not clearly understand it so I told the guy I was going to look it up first. Any clue what's going on, what it's about?

What are some good hospitals in/around Jackson Heights?

I just came back from Elmhurst Hospital. I was asked to come back tomorrow because they have only one nurse today... Also checked yelp, pretty bad reviews for this hospital, so any personal experiences?

Neighborhood Chat / DMV experience! Over 6 hours...
« on: January 08, 2013, 06:21:17 PM »
I went in this morning. Waited in line for over an hour to get the forms for license exchange (out of state license) and vehicle registration. Then over one and a half hours in line "C"... then sat waiting for my turn for over three hours. Got my license but need to go back for the registration day after...

I went to the College Point DMV. Is there any other DMV with less wait time?

Neighborhood Chat / Stores in/near Jackson Heights
« on: December 17, 2012, 12:55:35 PM »
Found great stores for groceries in Jackson Heights. Choices for daily groceries really good. Now looking for other items like cleaning liquids, laundry detergent, paper towels, etc. I found they are quite expensive in those grocery stores and most of the times, they don't carry bulk packages.

What are good places (I see there's a Target about 10 minutes away) for those kind of items?

What about furniture?

« on: November 24, 2012, 01:28:59 PM »
Which gas and electric companies are there in Jackson Heights? I need to get those started before I move into my apartment. I have heard of Con Edison. Is that the one recommended for both or is there anything else that is recommended?

Neighborhood Chat / Street Parking for residents
« on: November 18, 2012, 08:04:06 PM »
I will be moving near 77th & Roosevelt Ave in about a month. The problem is, I own a car. I understand that I will have to park on the streets, but have a few questions.

a) I heard of street sweep (or something like that), where can I get information about the schedule?

b) Some streets have parking meters. How's the situation around 77th St and Roosevelt Ave. Are they mostly near where the businesses are or near residential buildings as well?

c) Which streets near this location would be slightly less competitive for space?

I hope the parking situation isn't that bad that I have to contemplate selling my car...  :o
