Restaurants & Food / Swim Two Birds
« on: November 10, 2021, 11:07:46 AM »
I noticed a legal notice on the door of the restaurant that never opened called Swim Two Birds located at
7605 37th Ave.  It was scheduled to open in 2016.  The legal notice is from the landlord seeking $269,000 in back rent.  I didn't have a camera so I could not post the notice.  Its a combination of a legal notice demanding payment and eviction.  I'm not certain when it was posted but I noticed it yesterday afternoon.

I remember the owner Stuart was very sincere about opening and he did spend a significant sum of money renovating but was faced with many issues from NYC, the landlord and possibly the Liquor Authority.  I don't remember all the details.  There was a lot of excitement about this restaurant opening.  Sadly, it never happened.

Restaurants & Food / Restaurant Outdoor Seating
« on: December 10, 2020, 12:42:34 PM »
Shouldn't the City be informing restaurants to remove out door seating areas that are not enclosed and winterized.  They no longer serve a useful purpose and are taking up parking spaces.

The worst looking one is outside of the Bamboo House on 76th St that is no longer in business.  The owner should have removed it when he closed but didn't.  Should it be removed by the Sanitation Department?   I have a feeling that its not going to removed for a very long time.

We're seeing resales at Washington Plaza.  Those who purchased from the sponsor were allowed 90% financing.  How much financing is allowed for buyers purchasing from owners and not the sponsor.  Thank You.

Neighborhood Chat / Barber
« on: April 07, 2020, 08:55:00 PM »
Are any barber shops open?  If not, does anyone know a barber who does house calls or cuts hair in their home in Jackson Heights.  I did a search and found nothing.  Thanks.

Restaurants & Food / Bamboo House
« on: September 20, 2019, 07:10:28 AM »
I noticed a sign in the window of Bamboo House (opposite Foodtown), "Curry Chicken $4.99 + tax to go only".  I ordered and wasn't expecting very much for $4.99.  The chicken was a very large leg, lots of rice and some greens.  It was a large portion that was enough for dinner.  I was very pleased.  Naan to go is $1.00.  The wait time was 20 minutes.

Restaurants & Food / Aroma Brazil - 75th Street & Roosevelt Ave
« on: July 17, 2019, 07:49:15 AM »
Yesterday at about 1 PM, I was near Aroma Brazil (food sold by weight) and I decided to bring home some lunch.  I took home a small container of mixed grilled vegetables   When I got to the register, I was surprised at a price of $11.60 including tax.  I have a kitchen scale at home and the container weight was 12.6 ounces.  This was my first visit to this buffet style restaurant.  The food was very good but not the price.  If there was a sign indicating price per pound, I didn't notice it.

Restaurants & Food / La Gran Via Bakery
« on: March 28, 2019, 01:47:05 PM »
I was in the area of 78 & Roosevelt early this afternoon at 12:45 so I stopped in La Gran Via Bakery to see if they had any dark breads and they didn't.  The place had only one customer standing having coffee.  The place is quite large and not at all appealing.  They have tall tables with no chairs.  Who drinks coffee at a Bakery/Coffee shop standing up.  When I walked by yesterday at 2 PM there wasn't anyone in the place.  Its possible that they do most of their business in the evening and on weekends.

I just noticed this morning since I never walk up 75 Street how trash littered 75th Street is alongside Food Dynasty.  Since it was 8AM, its possible the trash was removed later in the morning by store personnel.  However, the entire concrete sidewalk is so filthy that it would take a powerful steam cleaner to clean it.  This is quite a long stretch before you reach Montclair Gardens Cooperative.  Has it always been like this?  I'm wondering if the side of Foodtown on 76th Street is in a similar condition.

Restaurants & Food / (Hopefully) opening soon
« on: May 16, 2018, 08:24:21 AM »
Anyone with some news on the opening of Romeo's Italian Restaurant, Arepa Lady & Mario's Pizza (former location of Fresh Split Milk)?  Romeo's began construction in August 2017 so I would imagine they should open soon.  Arepa Lady was expected to open late March 2018.  What came as a surprise is Mario's Pizza returning.   I'm looking forward to all three opening especially Romeo's.

Neighborhood Chat / Orchid Liquors - 7513 37 Ave
« on: April 27, 2018, 05:56:06 AM »
Warning:  If you happen to enter Orchid Liquors for the first time be certain to ask for the price since prices are not marked.  I have a friend who visits occasionally and drinks Smirnoff Vodka.  I usually get a pint at either the liquor store on Roosevelt & 78 St or Broadway & 74 St.  Both places its $6.99 + tax or $7.61.  I happened to be shopping at Food Dynasty yesterday and entered Orchid Liquors and noticed they had Smirnoff pint.  I asked the price and was told $12.99.  I asked him (he's not the owner) to repeat the price and again $12.99 and I walked out.
