I was looking for some news on the shooting this evening on 37th Ave and 94th St. (my accountant's ofc is right there). Didn't find anything on google, but yikes:

The one with Sean on guitar kinda makes me feel bad for Julian. (I love Sean BTW) Sean wasn't even conceived when John and Yoko wrote this. Julian always gets the shaft.

For me it's not so relaxing walking along a poorly kept stretch of asphalt where nearly every intersection has a truck or van or utility vehicle parked crosswise just so they can do what they need to do.

Just seeing the above quote after posting to JHResident as follows:
[D]oes someone come around in the evening and move barriers for "Nighttime OS"? I had to deal with a car parked in the crosswalk recently (on 34th) and the car's LED(?) lights beaming onto the sidewalk blinded me; couldn't see a thing. I tripped and fell. I was injured.
If each driver coming home has to do that, then it happens a lot, no? Or is it a designated person doing it at nightfall along the whole or a section of the OS?

Chickenring, is that what was blinding me perhaps? - a delivery truck at 6 o'clock in the evening? It was there for 5 to 10 minutes - maybe more. I wrote to DOT/Qns Commish about my fall and I will amend it if it wasn't likely a car but a delivery truck. (A woman who found me laying on the ground told me it was a car.)

What a mess OS is.

JHResident, I have to ask, does someone come around in the evening and move barriers for "Nighttime OS"? I had to deal with a car parked in the crosswalk recently (on 34th) and the car's LED(?) lights beaming onto the sidewalk blinded me; couldn't see a thing. I tripped and fell. I was injured.

If each driver coming home has to do that, then it happens a lot, no? Or is it a designated person doing it at nightfall along the whole or a section of the OS?

Open Streets is a complete misuse of public resources.

The future of this city is looking pretty grim.

The hotel going up on Roosevelt at 91st is currently 4 storeys/stories and an entire block. In this violent crime, visible vice area (prostitution in the high 80s noticeably increasing), this is not very encouraging.

I haven't read this thread thoroughly so not sure what crap I'm stepping into here, but FWIW...

DeBlasio is relying on the community groups for advice to expand on his vision of the new normal. As far as restaurants go, you guys down in the 70s have a Thai group working in that capacity.

The community groups are being elevated to an empowerment that seems to bypass Community Boards. This should have a noticeable impact on the future of our neighborhoods.

He moved across the street.
He has been here for years. And I have heard that he has an apartment in the area. (Where he goes in Winter?) So he is not homeless. He chooses to live on the street. And collect plastic bags etc.

Maybe, but what you "heard" should be taken lightly. People are not above spreading vicious lies or being gullible believers in them. The homeless can go to a shelter "in Winter." A woman I knew years ago froze to death in a blizzard, while people talked about how she was rich and therefore chose her fate. It was sickening.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: MTA Covid Travel Survey

Only thing I am surprise is how MTA got a hold of my email, as I never use or signup any MTA services or newsletter.

And I have signed up for MTA notices, yet didn't receive the survey. MTA's either going through the trouble of being selective, or more likely a third party has access to your email address ::)

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Stolen Packages
« on: October 21, 2020, 06:48:54 AM »
Same problem here on 88th and 35th. My recent Amazon purchase was delivered by FedEx to someone who signed for it. I received a shipping notice of the 12th with an expected delivery date of 10/20-23th, but it was stolen on the 14th, a week earlier. It never sat in the mail area as someone took it directly from the FedEx driver.

I had read somewhere that thieves were following the drivers into a building. It could even be an inside job between driver and thief. At any rate, this can't stand forever. Too much loss. Customers (us) are going to end up paying somehow to cover it.

Anyone know where the local leadership is on restaurant reopening in NYC?  Seems like they are all MIA while local restaurants are struggling, when they are  not closing for good...

Itsit: "I think the post by Octavia ... could use more attention."

I read comments by Jessica Ramos (I think on Twitter; can't remember what she wrote) and their were numerous articles on Council Speaker's position calling for immediate limited opening. Here's one: https://nypost.com/2020/09/02/corey-johnson-calls-for-quick-start-to-nyc-indoor-dining/

Open Borders Books, a new bookselling collective in Jackson Heights, has been laying out an impressive selection of books every Sunday on 34th Avenue between 79th and 80th, from 10am to 12pm (weather permitting).

Books are pay-what-you-want and half of all sales each month will benefit a local aid organization. In our first month of operation, we donated $657 to Make the Road to support their programs for immigrants.

You can learn more about us at openbordersbooks.org or browse some of our books on Instagram @openbordersbooks. We're looking forward to meeting you, but please wear a mask when you come to check out our books!

Yours,
Jeff

Good luck in your endeavor. I think it's great that you all are doing something that you're passionate about.
FYI: MTR's 2018 revenue: $30,576,617.
