Restaurants & Food / Re: Restaurant or Bar Investors Out There?
« on: August 31, 2009, 07:08:42 PM »
I just caught this thread and I was reminded of my trip to Vancouver and this quaint restaurant called Salt. The theme was the pairing of artisinal cheeses, small-batch cured meats, and wines, beers and Sherries. The space had a minimalist organic feel to it with a big communal table. I think this would be relatively easy to set up in Jackson Heights since it wouldn't require a full kitchen. It would satisfy those who want a glass of wine or beer and some gourmet food. I would consider investing in a venture like this.

Btw, the food and wine was delicious.

Restaurants & Food / Re: Original American Chicken

I just had the worst meal since I've been living in Jackson Heights. I decided to try this place out since it's right around the corner from where I live. I ordered the half grilled chicken and the mac & cheese as a side. The chicken was dry and lacked any flavor. The mac and cheese tasted like watered down powdered cheese - really gross. Needless to say, I will never return.

Neighborhood Chat / July 4th Fireworks

Hi - I was wondering if you can view the July 4th fireworks from any of the rooftops in Jackson Heights? Are we too far away?

Thanks in advance.

Well for one thing, not everyone can afford a "Mac."
Two, Macs really aren't about computing anymore. They're primarily designed as platforms for consumer activities.

That Macs are more expensive than Windoze PCs is a myth that has been perpetuated for years now. You can get a Mac Mini for $599.00, compare that price with what Dell, HP, or any other manufacturer offers. Read the specs and compare what you get for the money. Check out the software package, chip speed, hard-drive, etc.. On top of that you don't have to deal with viruses, spyware, blue screen of death, etc.. How much time, frustration and loss of data do you have to deal with tell you realize that I'm not really saving any money? Another myth is that Macs are primarily designed for consumer activities - untrue - It's that their commercials/ads are primarily targeted towards consumers. The amount of business applications that run on Macs because of the UNIX core is vast and extensive. And guess what? Macs run Windoze using virtualization software. So you get two computers in one.

I know this may sound like a commercial but I deal with IT issues at work all the time and since we went Mac we have saved a tremendous amount of time, money, and resources for my company - and that's a fact!  :P

I second Tournesol although I would like the atmosphere to be a little more cosy, warm and quaint. A TV would NOT add to that atmosphere!
French food traditionally prepared would be ideal and perhaps a few dishes that are on light side for those of us that are watching our cholesterol levels and our waistline  ;)

Wouldn't be great if you could get steak au poivre, coq au vin, moules du jour, or even escargots in the neighborhood and then walk home. I kind of like the authentic atmosphere at FADA French Bistro in Williamsburg although the seating is very cramped.

:smitten: I would most definitely eat there 2x week with my SO if one opened in the Heights. Personally, I'm looking for a real nice atmosphere that's quaint, cosy, and has some style. 26 Seats looks like a nice spot although I've never been - nice wine list, reasonable prices.

It would be nice if if they offered some healthier French options on the menu. Oh, and please open on 37th Avenue - near 78th Street would be great!

During last year's JHBG Walking Tour, I discovered that the JHBG is trying to give the home landmark protection. Does anyone know what we can do as JH citizens to help save this beautiful home? Hopefully it's not too late. If had the money I would buy it myself!

Hi - I have couple of longtime friends that just started a green design company called SKN. They started their venture producing designer "grocery" bags made out canvas - they also offer organic canvas. All the materials are from the U.S. to keep the carbon trail small.

Here's the link: www.getskn.com

An organic juice bar would be great. I have a preference for green juice blends, immunity booster blends, and a double shot of wheatgrass. But please no added sugar!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed as well. Although I thoroughly enjoy all the Latin restaurants in the area it would be fantastic to have a French Bistro in the neighborhood. I would be there at least twice a week!

My vote is for either a French bistro or wine bar - good luck!
