Thanks, Todd.

I was hopefully looking East this morning.
But it was a really nice day anyway.

not much in the way of veggies yet, though i did pick up some lettuce and radishes.....seafood guys were there and good as ever. a new beef purveyor as well, though i didn't try anything, the lady at the stand was very sweet and their product list seemed pretty varied. i hope the unofficial food verndors return as well. those potato flautas were soooooooooooo amazing last year

I asked the strawberry folks whether they sprayed their berries, and the fellow working the booth said that yes, they did. Alas, no strawberries for me, but I have to say, it was so refreshing that he was honest about it. He assured me that they only spray the necessary minimum and that most berry growers will say that they don't spray, but that if they say that they're likely not being honest. Without spraying, the berries are really hard to grow, he said. For folks who don't care about such things, I advocate buying berries from the JH berry purveyors! He could have told me that the berries were 100% pesticide free, organic all the way, but he didn't, and for that he gets points++ in my book. Honesty is the best policy, says I!  :)

The list of farmers on the Jackson Heights Greenmarket website has been updated since I posted back in April.  New additions include:

Cayuga Organics: Flour, grains and beans from Tompkins County, NY
Maple Avenue Farm: Grass fed and grain finished Angus beef from Madison County, NY.
Red Jacket Orchards: Freshly pressed ciders and juices from Ontario County, NY.

Removed from the list:
Fishkill Farms: Orchard fruit, vegetables and eggs from Dutchess County, NY.

Hooray to honesty......unfortunately many of the so-called organic farmers are not often asked such questions...........don't ask.......don't tell appears to often to the policy. :tickedoff: :tickedoff:
