"There's a new BBQ joint on Northern btw 89 and 90, next door to CVS. It may be Korean style, whatever that is."

I picked up a menu from that place and it seemed like it was trying to be pollo a la brasa style BBQ...not so much southern BBQ that I was hoping for :-\.  I guess I might as well try it and hope for the best.

I'm sorry to say that this place has apparently closed. I'm not shocked, but I feel a little guilty about not supporting them.

A new restaurant has opened in their place, a Chinese restaurant called Ru Yi. They already have one in Elmhurst, has anyone been there? Jeff? I got the menu, and it looks very different than standard American Chinese. I hope to try them soon.

Always on the lookout for authentic Chinese food. I'll have to give Ru Yi a try. Btw, El Pollo Inka across the street from them has what I think is the best chicken and ceviche in the neighborhood and for a much cheaper price than Pio Pio.

I ate at El Pollo Inka once, it was very good. I had a basil spaghetti with fish filet dish that was delicious. Service was very friendly. I have no logical reason for me not going back there; it just never seemed to happen. Luckily for them, they're doing very well without me, I saw they were packed yesterday in the afternoon.

I'm Confused.  Is Alchemy Texas BBQ & Legend's both located at 71-04 35th Ave?  I did a google search and both have the same address.

alchemy was a spinoff of john brown's in LIC. they briefly rented space in legend's, but closed down after a few months. legend's has been there for decades. nice bar, haven't tried the food from the latest kitchen.

Looks like Alchemy barbecue is finding a new home. Kinda figured it would have ended up in Brooklyn, but Astoria it is!  How many barbecue places do they have now in the Long Island city/Astoria area?

Great stuff, some of the most interesting BBQ I've ever had. Unfortunately Legends didnt work and also I don't think the neighborhood was the best audience for it. Sometimes I go to Astoria and am amazed by how captive the audience is to restaurants like this. Not necessarily jealous bc Astoria can get pretty corny, but was a little disappointed bc Alchemy was That good.

If you haven't tried Slide BBQ in maspeth, which is close to us (they actually delivered to JH) they aren't bad at all. The Brisket was good but a little fatty (we happen to favor leaner brisket, I know some people don't actually.. ) and I got the rib combo and those were really good. The mashed potatoes were good, the beans were also good. The Carolina mustard based bbq sauce tasted like King's BBQ Sauce we used to buy when I was a kid. So good.

Give em a shot.. We're going to try chicken and ribs next time. The wings also sound good, eager to try those.

Thanks—good to know about this. As a side note, I found this interesting: "The restaurant finally opens after a three-year licensing saga with the Department of Buildings. Bowen, whose business partner owns the Dutch Kills building, says that the delay-ridden approval process would have put them out of business before the restaurant opened if he had been leasing the space." Sounds familiar!

this guy bailed on jackson heights after three months, saying "we were only having fun...we never intended to stick around" (literally, not paraphrasing).

he also has been in the news for threatening Jimmy Van Bramer via social media. i can't wish him well.
