Where to find building blueprints or info
« on: April 28, 2008, 09:13:34 PM »
Hey guys, I need some help.  I recently bought a coop up in Southridge Sect. 3 and am looking to do some kitchen renovations.  I've got a friend who is a licensed contractor who's doing the work, but there is one major stumbling point.  There is a large wall in between my galley style kitchen and living room where i'm looking to punch a hole through and make a 5 ft long pass thru/ breakfast bar.  He was here this weekend looking a it, and we can't tell if it's a load bearing wall.  If I could find the building blueprints, I could find this out easily, and if not, he said I might need to hire a structural engineer to come look at it.  I'd much rather opt for the first option, so if anyone has some suggestions, it'd be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

check to see if other people in the building have done it, but you could also try proertyshark.com.  you have to register (it's free), but they have tons of info, including blueprints, sometimes.
the other option is the management company, though you may need board approval for the construction if they get wind of your plans...  isn't there also a city office that has plans for every building?  or am I making that up?

Thanks, I'll check that site out.  I've already asked the super, and he doesn't have any ideas.  I've talked to above and below me but can't quite get a straight answer because my understanding of the chinese language isn't so great.  I have to let the management company know ahead of time what's going on anyways, so that's going to be an ordeal in itself.  If I could bypass asking them any unnecessary questions about putting holes in walls, it would help out a lot.

Hire an expediter. They can pull any recent plans from the DoB archive.
