"Free Antibiotics"??!
« on: April 27, 2008, 05:41:16 PM »
I've noticed a bunch of signs posted around the neighborhood from Maram Pharmacy & Surgical promising free antibiotics. At first it made me chuckle, imagining a big mob of people crowding around to get their share... but does this strike anyone else as a dubious public health measure? Granted, the fine print says that a doctor's prescription is required. Still, God forbid if JH is the site of a some crazy new drug-resistant outbreak...

Actually, it's real good business. Most antibiotics are dirt cheap. That's why Wal-Mart are selling them at cost; $4.00. The pharmacy will get and keep really grateful patrons based on this and they will be bringing in their expensive scripts for Lipitor, Celebrex, Ambien and the such,  which will make Maram a nice profit.

Exactly, it's not a public health measure, but rather a business decision.
