Sadly, Chhapte Sherpa has passed away, according to the Russ and Daughters website.

Thanks for the update. That's really sad - so young, too. I always loved that story in the Times after reading it in 2012 and still think of it from time to time. I actually just sent it to someone to read only a few months ago.

 So sad and he was still young. I have to ask if anyone knows the cause of death? possibly Covid 19?

What a sad but yet uplifting story.  To know/and yet not know, there are people like this among us.  Thank you for sharing his story.
