Anyone going into Manhattan tomorrow for work?
« on: October 30, 2012, 08:25:02 PM »
If so what are your plans? I am thinking of calling a car service but terrified that the queensboro bridge will be a nightmare. Moreover, I'm stressed at the idea of getting back to queens - call in car services are nowhere as easily accessible or fairly priced as in Queens and I have a feeling every yellow cab will either be busy or not interested in going to the outer boroughs.

i understand what you're saying, but maybe this bloomberg-instituted "initiative" of allowing drivers to pick up multiple riders in one trip will make it easier (if not necessarily more cost effective). it would seem like meters would be off, and if you could get two other queens riders, it might work? good luck in the quest.

Buses will be back in service. Probably the 7 line, too, since it is overground. Only the subway will be closed.

the Q32 goes to the city. Is it running? Bus information is almost nonexistent online. I was planning to cab it as well but if the 7 is running, that would be great!

the mta website only says "most" bus services. have no idea what that means.

ugh, so frustrated. even if things are 'running' traffic is going to be an absolute nightmare tomorrow with the volume of displaced regular subway takers trying to get to manhattan over land.

I'm taking a run to the Bronx to pick up three employees and I have someone else going to Heampstead to pick up two more.  If anyone needs a ride I will leave Queens at 8:30 am and will be taking the T Neck into the Bronx.  I don't mind making a pit stop in Jackson Hts or anywhere in the Bronx as long as it is not too far from the Highways.  My other guy is driving from Flushing into Heampstead and back into Forest Hills and then Jackson Hts.  He is leaving Flushing at 8AM from Flushing.

As of now, according to the MTA site, the Q32 isn't running. Perhaps that will change by morning. If not, I reckon telecommuting for one more day is a viable option, but I know that's not true for everyone.

Apparently the M60 is running - aka the "LaGuardia Bus" to Manhattanites.  It's an extremely convenient bus - I usually take it from the stop by Neptune Diner in Astoria Blvd.  From there it shoots straight across the RFK and brings you to East Harlem, West Harlem, and then down to 110 and Amsterdam.  Good option if anyone needs to go uptown or avoid the 59 street bridge.

Thanks, Joopy86. The prospect of taking the Q33 to LaGuardia, then the M60 to Manhattan and then a cab to midtown is slightly terrifying, but one not to ignore. Wouldn't have occurred to me, either, so thanks for the information.

My mom got on the 32 bus at 8:10 this morning (@ 82/37).  As of 10:50 she had just gotten into Queens Plaza.  All from traffic she said...

I can only imagine tomorrow will be even worse.

I work in L.I.C. and was able to get a ride from a very kind neighbor/co-worker. The traffic was ok till we got near the office, which is close to the 59th Street bridge, which was backed up. Later, I went east on the L.I.E., and the other side was backed up well past the Van Wyck.
I've heard horror stories about it taking more than 2 hours for people to go a few miles.
