Just went to the zipcar site and searched on 11372 and it does show a JH location on 82nd.  Is it still helpful for people to keep expressing interest in getting cars in JH - maybe in order to get more cars here?

In any case, congrats to all the people who submitted requests over the past year or couple of years.  Clearly zipcars does respond to such things.  Now if only NYSC would respond to my requests for a neighborhood branch!

Maybe we need to start an online campaign for NYSC too!

??? I just went and searched for a booking and the closest thing that turns up is the Sunnyside garage. Can you link to the page you were looking at?

Go to the zipcar site at http://www.zipcar.com/
and type 11372 into the box on the left just below the zipcar logo.

It only shows up in your search results if the car is available. You can also uncheck the "HIDE BOOKED CARS" function at the bottom of the left search column to see all cars near you to see when they're free.

For example, today, it's booked until 11 PM, but seems to be free all night long! It's a Toyota Scion - kindof ugly, in my opinon, but I've rented these models from Zipcar before, and they drive OK and there's a lot of room for hauling stuff (and people) around.

That was it exactly.
I like driving the xB better than the xA, eve if it does look funnier. You can get upright, amp, drumkit AND the bassist, drummer and tenor player in there

we got it! we got it!
seriously, when i posted on july 19, 2009, there were no zipcars in jh.
now there are 5.
2 in the 82nd st and 37th ave parking garage
and 3 in the 81st just south of roosevelt parking garage.
our bevy of choices include:
a scion and a sentra (82/37)
a mini, a honda element and a honda cr-v (81/41)
all 5 cars show up in those locations when i sign in and try to reserve.
thanks everyone!

i think our next guerilla campaign should be bringing trader joe's to jh.
location location location
-fermented and fried

We rented the Sentra and went to the beach this past weekend. It is so much more convenient to have the cars at the 82nd garage. Now that we do not have to hop on the 7 train to get a car, it truly feels like we co-own them, rather than rent them.

I just hope everyone takse greater care of the cars in our neighborhood than they do at the other zipcar locations.

Thanks to everyone who made this happen!

Has anyone tried Geniusride, the rental car company that delivers the car to your door in NYC?

That's true the zipcar now has a JH location.  I shouldn't have resurrected such an old thread.  I was just thinking that geniusride had some similar attributes to zipcar and thought I would add my question about geniuscar onto an already existing zipcar discussion.

So, has anyone tried geniusride?

Carsharing boosters ---

The Community Board 3 Land Use Committee will review a proposed amendment to the Zoning Code that will facilitate parking of carshare vehicles in off-street parking facilities.  The meeting will be 7:30 pm on June 10, 2010Here's the meeting notice.

And here's a page on the NYC Dept. of City Planning website that describes the proposed amendment.  Just in case members of the Community Board aren't familiar with carsharing, some JH carshare participants might want to show up to this meeting to support the proposal.
