Time Warner Monopoly

So....because I haven't been able to watch either the Knicks or Rangers since the first of the year AND because they've started charging me near 150 a month for standard Roadrunner and 1 cable box with basic service and no movie channels I wanted to dump Time Warner.  I was about to place an order for Verizon/DirectTV when  I was informed by my super that he could not provide roof access to the installer because my building management company only allows Time Warner in this building and has had this policy in place for many years.   How is it possible that I can SEE Direct TV dishes on the roof next to me, but I'm not allowed to switch? Has anyone else had this problem? I'm honestly pretty aggravated that my building management company can ban me from selecting the TV provider I want. 

I wonder if Time Warner knew this when I called them up...it would totally explain the pay up or f**k off attitude they gave me when I called because my promotional pricing had expired.

most larger buildings have a "monopoly" in place. they don't allow equal access for competing cable/optical companies because tearing up building infrastructure for one resident makes no real sense. i've never considered asking about satellite services because i've never heard anything but horror stories from users i know, so i cannot vouch for that. if i might ask, do you know how many different services are supported in the building you are seeing from your window? dish? direct? others?

and your post makes me feel lucky -- as much as i complain about time warner (and i do!), i get the all-inclusive, all movie channels package plus wifi internet plus phone for 200 a month. maybe you could talk to them about a retool?

Get a set of rabbit ears, they have the digital ones for $20 at radio shack and they plugin the back of your tv.  You'll be amazed at the amount of broadcast around here.  But for games, yes you need uncle TWC.  If you don't like it, you have to agitate with other shareholders, the management company is there to do your paperwork, not hassle you.  If you're a renter, wah wah wahhhhh.

It may be some work on your part, but if you get the whole building involved, then they should be able to allow other providers. We were all going back and forth for a year about getting fios, and finally the building made adjustments so we were eligible.

My building is offering Verizon Fios now, in addition to Time Warner ,and I switched right away! I used to have 2 cable boxes, 4 premium channels, internet and phone and was paying $187. I have the same package now, and I pay $132 woo! After 2 years, price goes up to $145. Must tell you, I love Fios. My internet is way faster and the picture looks clearer. The only thing I miss is NY1 because I used to watch that a lot to know what was going on in NYC, but eh saving $50 wins that battle.

Call Verizon fios. They just installed many cables across the neighborhood. We are getting ours on Monday. We have time warner and have nothing but problems and our bill is outrageous. We also tried the satellite and it was worse. If that doesn't work put up a stink. I'm sure you are not the only one in your building. good luck
