John Leguizamo gives nod to Jackson Heights on Tony Awards tonight as the "ghettorific neighborhood" his family moved to after leaving La Anus, Colombia.  Does it ring true?

thirty years ago, when his family did that, sure.

but back then, you'd be shot dead for walking down avenue B in manhattan.

and you could buy a two family house for 40 grand in Astoria.

does that ring true in 2011?

Yep, 20 years ago I was held up at gunpoint by Tompkins Sq. Park in Alphabet City.  Just today, I woke up to vandals smashing cars right here in Jackson Heights.  Some things seem to be "more ghetto" here than when I moved in six years ago.  :police:
