$14 Subscription to Edible Queens
« on: March 23, 2011, 06:46:40 AM »
Groupon is having a special for a $14 subscription to Edible Queens. I normally pick up a free copy at Espresso 77 or in LIC but since there's this deal, I got a subscription.

Here's the info:  http://gr.pn/ia5XmF

Why would one want to pay $14.00 for it when it's available everywhere gratis?

Edible Queens is a great magazine that focuses solely on food in Queens. It is available for free everywhere but I think it's important to support them monetarily as well (and it's nice to do that with a bit of a discount). It's also nice to get it delivered directly to my house and not have to worry about remembering to pick it up when it comes out.
I think of Edible Queens as a community service almost like NPR and I give money to NPR every year so why not give a bit to Edible Queens for my use of their service.

I agree that it's a great publication and I'm glad they have included Queens in their roster.

The difference between the Edible publications and NPR (which I also support) is that the magazines are heavily laden with advertising.  That's the source of their revenue.  This is not a criticism of the magazines because the ads are a neighborhood reference.  It just makes me less inclined to give them $14.00, when I can obtain the mag's for nothing.

I guess we just see it differently and will have to agree to disagree :) It's worth $14 to me to have it delivered right to my mailbox.
