Jackson Heights in the 80's & 90's
« on: February 04, 2011, 02:30:32 AM »
I have been getting a bit nostagic lately.

I am getting pretty close to being 30, I know kind of young to get nostalgic.

But then again it has be almost 25 years since I entered P.S. 69, and it will be 15 years since I graduated St. Joan of Arc.

Does anyone remember the people, places and events of our fine neighborhood from the 80's & 90's?

I will probably start listing things, but it would be great to see others contribute.

-- All time best person over many generations, is Richie, the custodian, he worked at P.S. 69 for 40+ years before he retired, I saw him yesterday, and that man never slows down.

If it's the Richie I remember (Richie W.), then I played punchball with Richie when we were students at PS 69.  He was one of the best players in the neighborhood.

I never knew Ritchie was a student at PS 69, he's gotta be in 70's.  If we are referring to the same guy.

LOL I got nostalgic at 25, and I'm 41 now ... so go figure ...

I love the old neighborhood threads ... the comic store, pizza for under $1, the KFC then Sizzler.

Any questions?

I remember the store for sure. Was Peter the guy who would spin the records in the back of the store?  I would always go in there and take a listen.

the baskin robbins and flower shop (both near 75th) were must stops for me. and the fish store on the south side of the street, which had the best seafood in the area. further up, Luigi's for red sauce Italian sitdown. and Budd's Bar.
