Acquista Trattoria on Union Turnpike & 178th St., I've been here dozens of times and I have never being disappointed. Met my friend Danny there.  We split the cold antipasto..mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, prosciutoo, roasted pepper , eggplant and Parmesano.  Sprinkled it with balsamic and olive oil and we were on our way.  Danny had the Pollo Montecarlo which has a mozzarella and champagne sauce.  I had the Caesar with grilled shrimp and chicken (its one or the other but I always ask for both when I have my Caesar).  We washed it all down with a carafe of Montepulciano.  In my opinion Dollar for dollar the best Italian for the money in all of NYC - Cheap eats!

I too think 5 Guys makes a great burger.  I thought the closest one was in College Point!  I must tell my son about the Corona location he's so close he could walk over and with the size of those burgers walking afterwards is a good thing! ;)

There is also a Five Guys in the Bay Terrace shopping center and another one is opening soon on 188th street by the shopping center.

I work close to Acquista and the food is very good for the price.  They also make nice sandwiches

Qdoba - A Mexican fast food place on 188th street of the LIE.  I eat here once a week for lunch.  All the food is fresh and you tell them what you want on your burrito, taco etc. Today I had a Queso Burrito.  They have great queso sauce and you can get lunch with a drink for a little less than 10.00

@ eddiestjohns...I only had the sandwhich once on the focaccia and once on the hero roll...I don't remember which ones I ate (maybe the tuna?) but I liked the focaccia one better.  My favorite dish is the Salmon Puttanesca (really tasty and tangy) followed by the Snapper Provinciale...has a light sauce with shrimp and it's very generous.  Rosario's wife makes the tiramisu, fantastic and always fresh.  During the summer I'm there twice weekly for late lunch or late dinner.  His kids are running the place nowadays.

I see the Mexican place all the time...I never ate there but it seems popular.  Sometimes I take the workers to the bar at Applebees next to it or Iguanas on Union Tpke if we are working nearby.

Went to Pasta Del Giornio last night in Austin / Forest Hills. One of those places that is in a great location and can have really great food & also very mediocre dishes. I'm not a big fan of their pasta (ironic) but then again, while I love northern Italian I'm not a pasta lover.  I also know when and when NOT to take the waiter's recommendation. We started with a delicious bottle of Bodega Norton Malbec Reserva, stuffed zucchini and Caesar salad. My guy Oscar didn't offer :tickedoff: any of his zucchini but he wolfed it down and said it was delicious.  Oscar had the bronzino grilled which I've had there before. They claim it's imported from Argentina but I always though it was only available from Europe.  I had the gigantic Angus medium...(I didn't have lunch & I was hungry  :( ). The staff has always been attentive but they can get busy and then the service will lack.  I admit I never had their risotto and I only have the same main courses.  I do experiment with their appetizers a bit but I like the salads best.

native where is this place? Im always over there. We had a "buffet" for dinner. My kids all wanted different things. We had empanadas from papas-I haven't had them in a long time and the vegetable ones taste so much better now, Falafel with salad and potatoes from Plaka and then to top it off Garlic knots from Rosas pizza (they make the best not greasy).

I had a vegetarian burrito from Chipotle for a quick dinner - flour tortilla filled with grilled onions and green peppers, black beans, rice with cilantro, roasted corn salsa and guacamole  No fallout for me or any animals.  Now that's delicious!

Thank you for asking.  These are the words of Kathy Stevens, the Director of the Catskill Animal Sanctuary.

Fallout for animals:

"Gestation crates.  Veal crates.  Tens of thousands of chickens grown in a single building, sitting in their own filth, the ammonia from their excretions damaging their eyes, lungs, and throats.  Grown so quickly that the chicken industry now knows the percentage of birds that die of violent heart attacks because their organs can't handle the stress of being forced to grow to slaughter weight in just six weeks.  People chop off animals' tails, chop off their toes, chop off their beaks, all without anesthesia, because on modern farms, animals packed together peck and claw and bite each other . . . and god forbid the meat be damaged.  Every aspect of agribusiness is designed to maximize efficiency and profit despite the costs to the "product" (in this case living animals) and the consumer."

Fallout for us:

"I think most of us even know that the consumption of animals products is killing us.  Certainly the link between many forms of cancer, heart disease, stroke, obesity, type 2 diabetes, gout, high cholesterol, and other diet-related health problems Americans suffer from has been part of the public conversation, despite the fact that the medical establishment and the pharmaceutical industry might prefer it not be.  They make money from our sickness."

If you choose to eat animal products then please educate yourselves as to where they are coming from.  Buy them from the Green Market system if you need to eat these things.  The Green Market has a rigorous vetting process whereby the nasty stuff is weeded out.

You can check out their suppliers here:  http://www.grownyc.org/greenmarket/ourfarmers

All I'm saying is that if you choose to eat these things then please do so in the most informed way possible.  The meat available in Jackson Heights (not the Green Market at Travers Park) is probably from questionable sources at best.  If anyone in JH Life is in the local restaurant business and would care to comment, please do.

For 97% of the animals products consumed in this country please watch this video - Glass Walls - by Sir Paul McCartney:
http://www.meat.org/

I do not want to consume suffering, stress, adrenalin, antibiotics, pesticides and fungicides in my food.  I also do not want to exploit the workers in these environments.  The only thing worse than cruelty is delegated cruelty.  No thank you.

I'm glad you asked this important question.

OH YES,  I ALMOST FORGOT.   I went to a new place (New for me) in east Harlem for a late lunch.  Ricardo's steak house...2145 2ND Avenue by 110Th street.  Dark, exposed brick, Open kitchen in the front, nice eclectic decor with interesting lighting.  I wasn't expecting much so when I opened the menu and saw so many Italian dishes and steak specialties along with American and Latin dishes I was surprised.   I really enjoyed the variety of music as well.  I heard some old school hip hop, some British pop and some salsa from the 80's...I was home... :D.

When the waiter came he asked if I wanted something to drink and I wasn't sure if I should have alcohol on a sunday so early.  Well, he recommended a Lychee white sangria...Wow, nice and very generous.  The garlic toast was really tasty and I decided to skip the main course and order their appetizers sampler platter which was basically 4 different appetizers.  It had the clams casino (made with what looked like Canadian bacon), crabcake (It had a light corn like coating with a sweet, almost mango or banana aftertaste), 2 Angus beef empanadas and...and -  (I can't remember the 4Th item...thanks LYCHEE SANGRIA  - oh wait, grilled calamary  )   I didn't take a picture of the food but I do have a link to their web site.  I want to check out the place on an evening...my cuz is coming from Ohio on Thursday so I think we'll hit the spot to try out some of their seafood (and some Lychee sangria)  :D :D.
