Haven't been to Novo in a while...I want to give some people the space.  I make them uncomfortable and bottom line is we were close at one time plus they were there first  :2funny:.  I do miss the cheese platter and ceviche... :'(

I went to Uncle Peters tonight...had a nice meal as always...The mini hens were amazing and as always, i added a glass of Merlot to my sangria.  I was lucky that I was doing a job nearby and the restaurant was a mere few blocks away.  The place was jammed so the service was a little slower than usual, which was fine with me.  Unfortunately my kid was sick & grouchy therefore I couldn't stay for a Sambuca or Anise OR a desert.  :(

I had three of my guys work OT today - Took them to Portofinos in Forest Hills (Queens Blvd).  Thank G-d they have valet
They have a buffet on Tuesdays, and while they are not a gourmet (my opinion) the food is absolutely fine for the $$ - for less than $25, you get all you can eat Italian buffet, very decent desert and coffee.  I was :o - and my guys took no hostages ;D. Not bad if you have a bunch of people to take out at once... The partner / manager is the most personable guy in the Forest Hills restaurants arena :D

Hey, there is absolutely nothing wrong with self promoting...You guys have a good reputation...build on that. I'm rarely on Greenwich V. but during the summer we do work all over down town - will stop by next time I'm in the area... $5 Drinks? - NICE!!!

slightly prejudiced -- knowing the owners -- but I do go to sullivan bistro when I work in the west village.  the food is very good.

here in JHs, when I'm in the mood for steak,  I tend to eat more often at La Cabana on Northern bet. 86/87.
First, do no harm.

Sly Fox on Union Tpke.
Had an extra crispy crabcake as an appetizer  :D.  I also had the worst Caesar salad with chicken breast  :(.  On the lighter side, we were seated next to the fire place and the Chardonnay was agreeable.  ;)

Re: Where Did You Eat Last & What Did You Eat? - LA GLORIA! JH
« Reply #149 on: April 10, 2011, 10:26:32 PM »
"la Gloria" on Saturday.  Cute and cozy with a daring decor.  I think they did a good job incorporating and hidding the kitchen.  The small Menu makes it easy to chose your dishes but some patrons may not like that fact.  Looks like the bar can get really friendly later in the evenings.  The Ceviche mixto was good, the croquetas were extremely dry but it was served with some greens in a really delicious vinaigrette.  The ropa vieja with polenta could have done without the bean soup but they had the right idea.  I would get rid of the bean soup it's immersed in and just put the ropa vieja on a creamier polenta - I think that would be memorable.  The snapper had too much breading and way too crispy and dry for my personal taste.  Maybe I was expecting a traditional pargo frito with no breading, but if the fillet weren't so over done I think it would have been a nicer entree.

The pork dish was very tender and well seasoned so it might be borderline salty for some...again, one of those dishes I wish they would skip heavy sauces. In my opinion, Roasted pork needs very little messing with (outside of a mojito isleno or similar).  The mariquitas were served with guacamole that tasted fresh. The sangria was "spritzy' or maybe had some champagne or something like that in it.  It was OK but I don't like my red sangria to taste "white sangria" like.  Sangria is one of those things that have too many variations and establishments like to get creative with.  The Waiter was a very nice and attentive young man, unfortunately he knew nothing of the dishes, every time I asked about how the dish is made, he had to get the bartender  ???.  I would go again but maybe to the bar and try out some of the other appetizers.  It's an interesting spot and has the potential to improve if they wouldn't try so hard to over-manipulate what is otherwise simple traditional Latin dishes
