Before Queens Center Mall
« on: August 30, 2010, 05:07:55 PM »
I know it's not JHghts, but as JHers we've all spent a pretty good chunk of our shopping time there.

I was curious as the what existed in that location before the mall? I read something about a children' amusement park. Obviously my interest is piqued and I would love to see photos. Googling turned up nothing. I also started thinking about pre-mall days when I read that Queens Place (formally Macys) was designed in it's iconic circular shape as opposed to a traditional rectangle because there was one homeowner that refused to sell her house so they just built around her. Photos of this would also be interesting.

Any memories, links, or photos would be great! :)

There's a brief discussion on the small house that was once located near the circular building currently housing Target on Queens Blvd. in the following thread:

What's new in Elmhurst?

Unfortunately, the link to the St. Bart's photos on that thread appears to be viewable to members only now.  That said, there's another link further down the thread that remains active.

Reviving this thread to share some interesting info on the Sendek house that existed pre-construction of the circular Macy's on Queens Blvd. Today, that Macy's location now houses Target, in addition to many other stores.

BTW, I originally came across the following link at the Gothamist website.
