Welcome, Yuki!  Feel free to jump in and discuss anything in the neighborhood that interests you.  We don't have very many people talking about what's happening around Junction Blvd., but we have lots of interested readers!

Hi.  I've been living at the east end of Woodside for about six months.  I've lived in every borough of NYC throughout my life (all 46 years) and grew up in The Bronx.  Although I technically live in Woodside (64th St.), I spend a lot of time around the 73rd-75th Street area (for Indian food and music, great supermarkets, the nice and fast E train...), so I kind of feel as though I am resident of Jackson Heights.
I arrived here via a Jackson Heights blog that I discovered because they linked to some reviews that I wrote about some CDs that I'd bought in one of the stores on 74th Street.  I do a blog on global electronic music, among other things.  (Maybe I'll send the URL for that...sometime.)  Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting more deeply acquainted with the neighborhood.  I've had to move a lot lately (bad apartment luck), but I'd like to settle in the Jackson Heights area for a while.

Hi!

My name is Richard Procter and I'm new to Jackson Heights!

I live in Harlem, but will be spending a great deal of time in JH in the coming months! I'm a Journalism student at Columbia University and will be reporting on JH for my class in addition to freelancing what articles I can in local papers.

I'm originally from Sacramento, California. I went to UC Davis for my undergraduate work and ended with a degree in Communication. I enjoy movies, video games, reading, friends and sports. My favorite teams are the Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

I love listening people and doing what I can to help.

If you see me around, say hello! I'd love to chat. I'm 6'2", Caucasian, with brown hair and glasses. And I'll probably have a dorky messenger back with me.

See you around!

Hi,

My name is Demetrius Spaneas and I (we) just moved to Jackson Heights in August from Boston, where I was for the past two years; Russia before that, and Astoria before that :)

My wife and I moved back to NYC because she is an art historian and is a research fellow at the Met Museum; I am a performer and composer and am now professor of jazz studies at Five Towns College on LI.

This is me :)

Glad to be here; great neighborhood!

Hi!
I'm a graduate student at Columbia University studying journalism.  For my graduate work I have been assigned to write about Peruvian-Americans. I heard there were plenty of Peruvian restaurants and even some clubs in Jackson Heights so I was hoping to find some leads for stories in this community. Anyone have any ideas?  I'm also looking for any story that sounds interesting, unique, or that has been overlooked by other New York newspapers.  Email me at NathanAVickers@gmail.com if you have any ideas!

HELLO!!  My husband and I are about to move to Jackson Heights from Astoria.  We love the look and feel of the JH neighborhood, and are excited to find it's hidden treasures.  So far, our biggest knowledge of JH is the farmers market on Sundays -- big plus!!   Any inside tips you all have are more than welcome!

Hello all!  My name is Whitney Light; I'm in Jackson Heights this year as a student reporter from the Columbia School of Journalism. I'm from Winnipeg, Canada, and I just arrived to New York City in late July. I'm thrilled to have been assigned Jackson Heights as my neighborhood beat, which I will cover for The Metropolitan Monitor (a publication of Columbia; more details on that soon) and local news outlets. I will frequently be out in the community doing research and gathering story ideas. If you would like to send me a story idea--could be news, culture, business, life, people, etc--please feel free to send me an email. My address is wml2106@columbia.edu.

One of my first assignments in August was to create a 2-minute audio slideshow, and for it I worked with Margarita Bermejo, a longtime JH resident, to create a story about her experiences as an immigrant, mother and small business person. You can check it out here: https://vimeo.com/48622879

Thanks and I look forward hearing from some of you and to getting to better know your neighborhood.

Whitney

Whitney, you did a wonderful job capturing Ms. Bermejo's story.  I enjoyed it very much, and I look forward to seeing more of your work!
