Some Dog-gone good info for canine owners
« on: April 23, 2010, 02:21:28 PM »
Let me just start by saying that I work in the pet industry and I am basically here to help anyone out with any dog related questions. This would include re"furr"als to local pets stores, veterinary clinics, shelters, trainers and more. Part of my job with Camp Bow Wow Long Island City is to develop good strong relationships with my local vet clinics, and stores. It is a great job, and I love working with other peoples' dogs all day! As you may or may not know camp bow wow is a doggy daycare and boarding facility and as such we take care of 40-60 dogs per day! Fun indeed.
But that isn't the reason I am here.
The first thing of value that I would like to share with you is a website which will do half of what I can do. Fido factor is a mobile phone application that helps you find dog parks, pet stores, pet services and veterinarians in your local area. I have the app on my iPhone and I LOVE it! Check out their website for more info www.fidofactor.com

Secondly, my friend Joe Block at the Queens Parks Department turned me on to a webpage that lists all the dogruns in the 5 boroughs. http://www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/dogruns It is a great way to find different parks for different activities for you and your pet!

Also, I have found Yelp to be an indispensable resource for finding reputable businesses in the area. I wanted to eat some marvelous Thai food and Yelp helped me find Srapraphai Thai Restaurant in Woodside. I can't wait to go there this weekend. I have to admit part of the reason I mention yelp is because I want more people to use it so the search results are even more refined.
The same can be said for Fido Factor as well; the more reviews they get on that site the more useful and legitimate the results are.

Ok, so another fun thing, I have been getting involved in a weekly pet discussion that happens every Monday night on Twitter. Anyone can join, all you have to do is use the hash tag and type in petchat in the search box and wham, you are part. It should look like this ( #petchat ). Last Monday's conversation was great, we were discussing great pet products and services that most benefit dog owners. My favorite mention was the Poopfreeze product which does just what it says, "frost & toss". It eliminates the smell and makes it easy to pick up loose stools. Maybe it can help with one of my pet peeves, dogs owners that don't curb their dogs. Nothing better than walking in some dogs poop!! GGRRRRR!!!

So lastly, I wanted to mention a few community things. A friend and client uses the Doughboy Plaza dog park and she is asked for help in maintaining and improving the park. Contact me if you would like to help her with that.
Also, I would like to follow in her foot steps and also work on improving a local park near our facility in LIC. The John Murray Playground has a dog run which is in pretty decent shape, but I know it could be better. If you would like to help us on this park I urge you to give me a call sometime. 718-392-9663

Thanks for listening! Have a dog gone great day!!
