Just like London?

Liberty London Girl says Jackson Heights reminds her of home.  Expatriot Londoners: JH is your home away from home!  Except we have salchipapas instead of bangers & mash.

Whoever wrote that article just fed the common misconception of Jackson Heights , that it is some dirty drug crazed place . Sure drugs were somewhat of a problem in the the 1980's and 90's , but, wasn't that the state the entire city was in pretty much at the time. Some people see Roosevelt and thats what they base there judgment on .

APG, I agree with you in that this article is very misguiding about the community, but unfortunately even in New York, it's been difficult for Jackson Heights to shake off that bad image it had 20 years ago.  Just the other day, I was mentioning to my aunt that Starbuck's would soon be opening in Jackson Heights.  She was a bit shocked by the news.  In her opinion, Starbuck's will be taking a huge risk because there is no market for it here.  She believes that Jackson Heights is a haven for illegal drugs and money laundering.  I basically answered back, "What do you know about Jackson Heights?  You live in Westchester County." >:(

I remember many years back when I found myself always defending my neighborhood.  People simply could not believe that I lived in Jackson Heights, and that I invested in an apartment in the community.  Thankfully, things have significantly improved with respect to crime and drugs, so this is no longer the case. :)  The reaction I get these is days is more like, "cool neighborhood!"
