Ever have an Easy-Bake oven?  I remember small flavorless cakes, but the real fun was not so much in the tasting, but more in the making.  CHOW.com fast-forwards to today, and they don't think the little oven is that much fun anymore.  I'd have to question that by asking a kid.

Easy-Bake Oven Isn’t As Much Fun As it Was

Pop rocks exploded in your mouth.  Weren't they banned because of what could happen if you ate them while drinking coke, or did we make that up?

Just caught on to this thread.  I was raised in Western Mass. centuries ago.  Was it a local myth or did city kids also believe that you could get drunk if you mixed an aspirin into Coca Cola?  We would do this at parties and then act like idiots (more than usual) for several hours, swearing we felt drunk.
