dssjh,

I can help you and I have a contact at humane enforcement at the ASPCA that can get the cat out and get it to Greg, who said he would be willing to adopt.

i hate the idea of taking the law into one's own hands, but the life of an innocent animal is about 1,000,000 times more important than the right to 'property.'

I have still not been able to get any information regarding the cat.  So I don't know what to tell you.  I keep hoping that the owners of the store are planning to take him when they finally get all their belonging out of the store, but it doesn't look hopeful right now.

Madalyn that is very kind and compassionate of Greg.  I think that the best thing to do is go to Tselos' office and tell them. Speak to Jennifer as she is supposedly handling it.  As a last resort I am going to call Daniel Dromm's office and see if they can help in finding out anything.
Thanks for your help.

I'll go to the Vet's office today.  Does he actually know the store owner or has he just heard about the cat?

I totally agree and, as a last resort, I would certainly break into the place and get the cat.

I went by Don Francisco's just now and there was not one but TWO very serene-looking cats sitting there waiting - possibly siblings.  The are both basically white cats with patches of color.  One has two other colors, making her definitely a girl and the other is white with orange patches, which means it could be either a girl or a boy.

I don't see any sign of food or water dishes but they may be in the back.

On an impulse, I looked up the phone number for Don Francisco and called it.  A man answered but said he was not the owner - just someone cleaning the store.  I have a feeling he really WAS the owner but did not want to admit it.  He was very defensive and  said that the owner comes every day to feed the cats and that people should not worry.  I guess we should keep an eye on this and see if that's really the case.  I asked him if the owner was going to eventually take the cats out of there and he said he did not know.  Please, everyone - when you go by, keep an eye out and see if there are any apparent changes to the picture.

I called Dromm's office this morning and they said they would check into it.  In the telephone book there is a listing for a Don Franciso Restaurant on Junction Blvd. but I don't know whether they are related.

Let's just keep an eye on them and I will let you know if I hear from Dromm's office.

Thanks to everyone for your concern.  It is nice to know that there are so many good people in JH!

looks like Daniel Dromm and his office DO listen and act  :smitten:

Hello:

I write to confirm to you that three cats have been removed from the Don Francisco butcher shop.  Council Member Dromm’s and Assemblyman DenDekker’s office both reached out to the 115 Pct for assistance.  Their Community Affairs Office contacted the owner of the butcher shop and asked that the cats be removed from the premises.  FYI the owner stated he was feeding and caring for the cats on a daily basis since the closing of the butcher shop.  The Community Affairs Officer told the owner that the cats presence in an empty storefront upset the community because it was assumed the cats were abandoned when the store closed.    If you can kindly post this information to the Jackson Heights Life community it would be most appreciated.

I wish we had a way of finding out because, if he's going to turn them in to the city shelter, I may (?)  be able to find something better.

That would be terrible!  I am worried about the same thing.  Is there any way we can find out?  Would Dromm's office know?  By trying to do the right thing for these animals, I hope that we (I) didn't cause them to be homeless and in a shelter.

Laura from Danny Dromm's office said the owner intends to keep and care for the cats.
