I remember these stores - even the original owners. It is devastating to see the destruction to a place I have known so well. Such hardship to all invoved.

These are also from 84th St. - same approximate place and time as a few of Jeff's.

From the pictures it looks like the stores in the other building (cleaners, framer, Kellys) are not destroyed. Any ideas if there is damage?

so devastating. I was there earlier when the flames were shooting through the sky and the fire trucks were arriving. We just stood there in horror. I saw the owners of the liquor store standing on 82 st and they looked to be in shock. So far I hear nobody was hurt thank god. Its just a shame to see this in our community.  :(

Any idea if the stores in the "other" building were damaged? Maybe the fire wall stopped the fire.
Are the residents of the apartment still evacuated?

This is so awful - I am so sad for these business owners and their employees.  I know it is still new but if anyone knows how individuals in the community can help them in this awful time please let us know.

The smoke was so bad at our place, 85th and 37th, we had to leave for the day. Came back at 4 and our house still smelled smoky.
It was so sad to see the news reports, and see Mrs. Lalita from the party shop, lamenting not being able to delivery on her Valentine orders. Having her business ruined, and worried about others. We've been so fortunate to have a lovely small business atmosphere to do our shopping in, I pray they find a way to regroup and rebuild. Mrs. Lalita always gave my kid a free balloon, and I'd just discovered that the place had beautiful kids party shoes of spanish leather.

What a tragedy. Thank God there were no injuries, but these poor people are hurting.
