Old Rock Movies at the Boulevard Theatre
« on: January 19, 2010, 04:01:06 PM »
Does anyone remember seeing Led Zep,Pink Floyd,The Doors and other rock movies there at midnight in the 1970'S? These were the good old days when you could smoke pot or cigarettes and nobody would say anything. I remember not being able to see the guy's head in front of me because of the smoke from the bongs, gas masks,
pipes and cigarettes. How times have changed!

In 1961 Chubby Checker made a live appearance at the Boulevard Theatre in conjunction with some movie about the Twist. (this was a MAJOR dance craze in the 60's and the place went wild).

Way back then the neighborhood movie theatres used to have "matrons," older women with flashlights, who kept order. Hard to believe that a 5'0" 70 year old woman armed only with a flashlight could keep order in a movie theatre filled with hundreds of kids and teenagers but they did.

Different times.

My Bouelvard memories were later, but I recall seeing all the BIG films there.  Like Raiders of the Lost Ark, which stayed there for a YEAR ... talk about changing times ... movies used to run there FOR MONTHS!

Think before you speak.  Speak your mind.  Mind your business.  Business before pleasure.
Any questions?

They still had the rock movies in the late 70's early 80's..my last time at this place was friday the 13th part 3..the 3D movie. My buddy says get off my foot , i'm not on your foot. Well he goes and kicks up a rat . It was the size of a small kitten  :2funny:

Does anyone remember the Drake ? on Woodhaven Blvd ?  one buck to see 2 movies ?  and this was the mid 80's
and to think of all the old movie houses gone:

Drake
Jackson
Colony
Boulevard
Elmwood
Corona Plaza
Astoria
Deluxe

Ah yes, the Drake!

The Elmwood!  (That died more recently, 2002 or so?)

And the Colony!  Oh man ... Star Wars with subtitles!  Ferris Bueller!  So many memories!
