NYC Native, Dude!

Be proud of your work, it looks top notch. My only complaint was that you should have posted in the first person, not the third! As I said, be proud and welcome to the site.

When You are right, you are right ECG .

Thanks

I am going to hang outside and have a "jarra de Sangria" in my yard.

I think it's a nice day to hang in Jardi on Northern Blvd because the day has been blessed with sunshine :coolsmiley:

Hmm.. A little bit of self-promotion here?

You posted on the real estate broker site, too.
 :o

That's not a bad thing.  The fact that they can write coherent sentences puts them in the top 1% of general contractors. ;)

Agree also on Antonio Electric

How does one contact this Antonio Electric?  They are quite elusive; not even Google can find them.

Here's another guy to throw into the pot:  Oldcastle Construction.  Gerard 516-507-2519.

He did some work in my building for someone so I met him outside and started a conversation.  Even though his phone number is 516, his business is on 75th Street in JHs.  He's licensed, bonded and insured according to his card.  Nice guy.  Professional looking workers and equipment.  But I haven't used him myself personally so I'd get references if you call him.

I *thought* that sounded like you outside my window chatting with him.

He hasn't started yet (since we need to work some stuff out with the management co first).

I'll definitely let you guys know how it goes.

Doors
« Reply #39 on: May 13, 2008, 12:40:58 AM »
Anyway, before I got distracted, I meant to come here to ask about doors.

I want new interior doors since my place seems to have been tricked out by the previous owner(s) with the absolute cheapest possible doors on the market.  They're flat, flimsy, and hollow.  One of them disintegrated off of its hinges on us.  The more signs of my apartment's former life as an abused rental unit I can rid myself of the better I'm going to feel about it.

I'm not crazy about Home Depot's selection but they're a) very close, and b) not too expensive.  Any others I should try?  I'm interested in french doors (or maybe they're called freedom doors now?)

It might be worth checking out Metropolitan Lumber and Hardware, 108-56 Roosevelt Ave. (don't be deterred by the lousy website).

Metro has more selection for every day construction but if you are looking to duplicate old moldings and need hard to find trims go to Dykes.  Careful with both because some common items can be prized on the hi-end :-\  but ask for a discount if you are spending some real $$$, they have been known to give it if you asked nicely...LOL  ;)

If you need a major restoration of your floors I can help you.  But if you need only a basic sanding and staining you can find 100 guys out there really cheap.  I have an ex employee that can do your basic sand and stain for $1.60 / ft.  I told you the price so that you don't waste your time in the event you have someone cheaper since he won't negotiate his price unless you have a 1000 sq ft or larger unit.  But if your floors are split, rotted, sunken or broken you will need expert repairs, that's more noney.  Give me a ring and I can get you the guys number tomorrow...(his name is Mukesh...hard to understand his accent but he does good work as long as is basic hardwood restoration)

Call me at 917-577-2868
