2010 Food Group
« on: December 29, 2009, 07:09:15 PM »
The next food group will be on
SATURDAY, January 16th. Time TBA

The choices for the new year are obvious:

Louie's Pizzeria at Baxter and 82nd St This is a much needed, quality pizzeria in our area, opened within the last 5 months. Not only great pizza but fresh, homemade pasta as well. Their business is gaining steam lately, and with good reason. I bet Louie will put on a good show for us.

Shangri-La Express Dumpling and Curry House on Roosevelt and 72nd St. This is the brick and mortar culmination of years as a street cart underneath the watch company billboard on Bway welcoming people to Li'l India. Their Tibetan/Nepali menu is accessible and their food is fresh and unapologizing.

These are both great quality restaurants, and no matter what happens with the decisions for this month's food group, I recommend you check them both out. They're both small, I know, but challenges only yield creativity. We'll see what happens...

Either way, this month's cost should be around 10 dollars. Probably less.

Let me know if you intend to come

Hell yeah, it's my birthday.

If you're taking votes, I vote for Louie's.

Louie's at 6:15. Shangri-la Express at 7:30.

the louie's crowd will overlap, so either do louie's for the long run, or do it halfway and make your way to shangrila at 7:15.

I have mixed feelings. I liked very much the Gramma, but the plain slice and spinach slice was just ordinary. I ordered two pasta dishes, the Agnolloti (spelling?) and the asparagus ravioli. My table preferred the Agnolloti.

The Margarita pie looks good, too.

All in all, I welcome our new, clean and friendly pizzeria to the neighborhood.

I enjoyed dining with our new food groupies, S. and T.

This monthly event is always fun. I'd love to go somewhere where I can have a drink.

My approximately seventy-five pictures (plus some of Jeffsayyes’ and judibean’s) of the whole affair, from Louie’s to Shangri-La Express to Lety’s Bakery to Terraza 7 Train Café can be seen beginning with photo fifty-three on page three of my album on Facebook. The link will take you directly to page three, and no Facebook account is necessary to view them.
