Trader's Joe's in Jackson Heights or Woodside
« on: August 19, 2009, 10:52:44 AM »
now that zipcars are in JH
i've started another campaign.
bring trader joe's in jackson heights, or woodside.
i suggest woodside as well
because real estate-wise
there may be more opportunities there.
regardless, please fill out the form from the link below
and ask for a new location in jackson heights or woodside.

http://www.traderjoes.com/location_requests_form.aspx

let's go JH Lifers!

nota bene: i also wrote to NYSC about opening a location in jackson heights.

With all the things the community needs, should more large franchises in our neighborhood be on the list? Especially one like Trader Joe's that will bring in tons of traffic on our already taxed streets.

I'd much rather have something like a member-owned and operated food co-op than a Trader Joe's. I wonder which is more likely: a co-op, or a Trader Joe's.

to be honest,
i wasn't entirely thrilled with how the food co-op was run in park slope.
it can be very, uh, regimented.
not entirely worth the savings, for me at least.

at least trader joe's have good employment practices
and in this economy, maybe new jobs in jackson heights (or woodside)
would the added bonus.

on another note, i would LOVE a fairway nearby too.

besides, i'm now going to the JH green market for my local veggies
and would love trader joe's to supplement
the dry goods.
they have the best priced recycled toilet paper and paper towels.

I agree with cl4t, a food coop modeled after the one in Park Slope is something I hope never to see in JH.  "Regimented" is too nice of a word.

I don't know how they run their co-op, but there's more than one way to run a food co-op. What's so bad about the Park Slope Food Co-op?

they are notoriously doctrinaire about a lot of things, according to friends of mine who tried it. but there are other models, like the flatbush food co-op on cortelyou road, which i was part of during my time in flatbush. i'd kind of prefer this as well. out of curiosity, where might the proposed trader joe's go? i mean an actual building, not "as close to my apartment as possible"

every time i go for a run, i do keep my eyes out for a vacant space.
that's why i'm thinking woodside might be better.
i'm sure in this economy, some businesses have closed, sadly..
so i think if anyone has seen a potential location.
do send it along to tj's.

What's up with the old EXPO site over by the Bulova building? Next to Bed Bath and Beyond (is that still there?) That's definitely got the square footage and the parking....
