Newborn Baby found in dumpster in neighboring Elmhurst

It's appalling that things like this happen when there are clear laws defining safe havens for unwanted children.  On the other hand, I commend the responsible and quick reaction of the teenage boys who found this poor abandoned child.

Elmhurst heroes' kin hope to adopt baby
By Jeremy Walsh
02/07/2008

The family of two of the skateboarding Elmhurst teens who rescued an infant from a Dumpster may soon get a little larger. The Moncada family will petition to adopt Christina Noel, whom their sons Christopher and Brian discovered in sub-freezing weather Dec. 17.

City Councilman Hiram Monserrate (D-East Elmhurst) made the announcement at his State of the District address Thursday.

"The Moncada family has four boys," he said. "All their lives, they wanted a girl."

Monserrate said he would speak to the commissioner of the city's Administration for Children's Services to try to expedite the process.
