An artist run exhibition space is under construction in Long Island City in The Silks Building.
The building has ample weekend parking, a freight elevator, hardwood floors, 14 ft. ceilings plus vaulted skylights, and large windows with Manhattan views. The actual size of the space is 500 square feet.
We are structuring it at 10 members which offers 1 solo exhibition and 2 group exhibitions yearly. A 100 sq. ft. area that is divided off will be allotted for an example of every members work year round.
To start, we will be organizing interns to open the space on Sundays. The space will otherwise be open by appointment only.
It is also proposed to offer the space for small rentals (readings, photo shoots, etc.) at a reasonable rate. The profits from these would go into the budget for the space, advertising, etc.
Following are the total costs divided by 10 members.
FIRST MONTH 497.50 per member
1425. rent (including bills) 142.50
2550. deposits 255.00
500. material costs (wall, desk, paint) 50.00
500. yearly insurance 50.00
497.50
EACH MONTH THEREAFTER 142.50 per member
